The Huffington Post has seen the iTablet... not!

Gerald Sinden of the Huffington Post writes, with tongue firmly in cheek, that he was given the first production model of the iTablet and 24 hours to play with it. According to his post, it's gesture based and sports a 10" screen along with being a phone, albeit a large one. And foam corners. To prevent people from inadvertently blacking their eyes when they try to use it as a phone. Mmm-hmm. Really.
There will be two cameras in it, and an option to mount it on the dashboard of your car when one camera will serve as a back-up camera, an option present in many high end automotive GPS systems. And it will come with apps to show you what your new haircut will look like. Insert giggle sound effect here.
Books will be sold by the chapter instead of by the book, which sounds odd to me but does seem to go along with the iTunes concept of buying individual TV episodes or songs. And it's at least consistent with Apple doing its best to extract maximum profits out of every device sold.
Take a gander at Mr. Sinden's post and tell us what you think.
Thanks to Stuart Carnie for sending this in.

You obviously did not read the article. It was a JOKE.
"Killer apps? Try this -- for those who will want to mount the iTablet high on their dashboard, this thing is going to block your view. So Apple has come up with the brilliant iDrive. The camera on the back side stays live and you basically can see right through your iTablet, like a virtual window. A second camera, imbedded invisibly in the screen, can provide help in backing up."

This is wonderfully hilarious. I love TUAW.
It's obvious to me that TUAW is a parody site making fun of all other tech blogs.
Right?

I really like how at the bottom of the Huffington Post article the first link is to an article on Huffington Post written by FAKE STEVE JOBS.

How do you mount a device with a 10” display on your dashboard. That makes no sense to me.
Also, it being a phone is a bit odd. Supporting mobile network data makes since, but not being a phone, even when using the presumed headphones w/ built-in mic.

Yeah, no offense, but I think it’s SUPER obvious from the author’s tone that the article was a joke.

Clearly you didn't read the article.
It is beyond a joke...but plain dumb.

LOL, I love this site but how could you miss something like this! Of course it's fake.

every computer is a phone...
I can believe the HuffPo got a pre-release trial with it, as Apple is trying to arrange deals with content providers... seems likely Wired and Conde Nasty have played with one also...
It's also more likely that a non-tech journalist would leak details because they have less to lose (i.e. access) by pissing off Apple.

Absolutely, totally, unambiguously fake. I didn't even finish the article. Totally pointless and not at all clever. Is that all it takes to get published on HuffPo? Seriously, I've been finding a LOT of spammy crap lately on HuffPo. It's like they've just flung open the doors to anyone with a keyboard. What's their strategy there?

"The only reason I'm telling you about it is that it came from the Huffington Post which, in my experience, doesn't print many rumors and their fact checking has usually been excellent."
Yea, they are right up there with the New York Times.
Oh wait...

Well yes, that's a ridiculous thing to say, but I think that line is part of the authors attempt at humor or obvious irony. At least I sure hope so.

Slow news day, TUAW? Also, this is one of the first articles I've seen that had vast differences between the RSS feed and the actual article. Methinks the author was fooled, and all the edits above are some cleanup and damage control?

TUAW, I can only assume this is self-parody now.

What I'd like to know is why, with all the photoshop addicts out there on the web, we can't get some decent mock-ups of the thing. I'm so tired of seeing the same obviously fake pictures on tablet articles. It won't have desktop OS X, that's a given. Isn't there someone out there willing to do a mock up of what the UI might actually look like?
These endless 3D renders of various "rounded aluminium boxe"s with a slapped on pic of the OS X desktop are lame and unimaginative at best.

jeez, you people really are nuts. you're so completely obsessed with the possibility that someday, maybe, if things work out right, apple will release this thing, that you've totally lost all sense of humor, perspective, or insight about it.
THIS is why rumor sites are such a waste of time. you're completely unable to just say, "you know what? this is a bullshit rumor, and we're not printing it." every ridiculous rumor gets breathlessly reported as fact...so we can ignore every one of them.
