Dateline NYC: Desperately seeking iPad
What's harder to find than a cheap apartment in Manhattan or a table at Per Se? According to Silicon Alley Insider, it's the iPad. The great slate will make you wait; it may be magical and/or revolutionary but it isn't to be found anywhere in the tri-state area (that's New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, in this particular case). Combine the in-store shortages with a 7-10 day delivery lag on online orders, and you can see why this is either really good news ("Apple is selling iPads as fast as it can make them!") or really bad news ("Apple can't make enough iPads, something is wrong with the production process!"). How you see the current crunch largely depends on whether you are an iGlass half-full or half-empty kind of person.

None to be found in the Miami Area either I am on waiting list and nothing yet (waiting for 3g model). I ordered from Apple and they wont ship until June 8th ! That is 17 days. If I find an alternative to Apple ipad (like a table notebook) the I will just cancel. Bad planning on Apples part

I am on 3 different stores waiting lists, tried every BB around so I just ended up ordering one online. When I placed my order online it said ships for delivery between 5/18 and 5/22 and hasn't changed. When I called to check on my order they said it will be shipping directly from China any day now. The interesting thing is that there is a hold on my credit card for the amount but it hasn't been charged yet and hasn't shipped yet. I wonder how long it will take for me to get once it does ship from China.

I live in NJ, but I was traveling when the iPad came out, so no online ordering for me. I walked into the Apple Store at Fashion Show in Vegas, and was a bit late that day so they were out, but told me that they were still in stock at the Town Square store. So I went there and bought one. No drama involved.
Of course, that was several weeks ago.
While I am looking for a cheap place in the East village...

Checked all the 7 Apple Store in New York and suburbs, all sold out ! So i decided today to try at best buy on the 23rd, sold out too. But someone told just befor i leaved the store that they got some at 44th. And his was right ! 5 min later, i had it ! So, newyorkers, go check this store ;)

Some had a few 32 gig, and a number of 64gig, but no 16 Gig. I then called stores in NJ and CT. The only one that had 16Gig left (only 7) was The Apple Store in NJ (Paramus). I got over there the very next day (before The Apple Store opened) about 9:56 or so (opens aat 10 am) and to my surprise the store wasnt empty ... people all around. I quickly found a Apple employee told em I want The 16 Gig... got it and bought it :).
Thankfully I got it when I did. I can imagine how hard it is now.
