TiVo says iPad app due by end of January
In what could only loosely be called a formal announcement, The Mac Observer is reporting that TiVo took to the Twitter airwaves today to let us know that the TiVo-branded iPad app should be out before the end of January 2011. Back in November 2010 was the first time we had heard about an upcoming TiVo app, and a video posted on its Facebook page finally gives us a glimpse into its capabilities. Users can browse their program guide, schedule recordings, remotely control the TiVo box and check out cast and crew information for any show -- all without interrupting whatever is on the TV itself. The app even offers the ability to schedule recordings on your TiVo when you are away from home. With DISH releasing its iPad app just last month and DIRECTV offering its own app compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, it's no surprise that TiVo is out with its own version. I prefer the TiVo DVR over the ones offered by cable or satellite companies, so once the app is released we'll be sure to get our hands on it and give it a solid run-through.

Ipad is an amazing invetion from apple. Its has many flaws and drabacks too.Apple should consider those things. It doesnt have camera even.I was shopping for ipad on online shopping when i came acros with different blogs.Do check it out for many other products.Ipad and blackberry books are both the same.Blackberry book comes with many new feature while ipad lacks sum functions.
The Premier was such a lame product idea that I'm not surprised that their iPad app is a me-too snoozer. Like most TiVo owners, I don't understand why they can't provide the same features for the TiVo HD and series 3 units that other developers have done.
Between the Premiere and this app they've demonstrated that they are simply lost. And that's why TiVo owners (and I'm one of their best) won't spend another dime on new TiVo boxes or upgrading their existing ones.
I too have a problem with the fact that it only works with Tivo Premier. Yes that is their new version of their product.
It is no different than Microsoft saying that Windows 7 is their new version of Windows and they aren't going to support a "new technology" (I laugh and cry whenever I hear or read that along with the name Microsoft) in Windows XP or Vista.
They Want you to buy their new stuff and are using things like this to give you a reason to, because the new flash interface in itself is DEFINITELY not a reason to buy their new stuff.
The flash interface is slow and buggy. THAT can be fixed. What can't be fixed is all of the ****/**** and *****ing **** that clogs up the screen with the new interface. It is AWFUL.
I do NOT want a Facebook type look to my TiVo. Yes currently you can choose the "classic" interface but for how long. And why would I buy a new TiVo unit and use the old interface when the new hardware doesn't do enough stuff better than my TiVo HD3 unit?
There is no reason. Therefore, OK, also in reaction to DISH TV and DirecTV coming out with their own iPad apps, but again, this is something they are trying to use to make us buy their new stuff.
I'm saying it again. I LOVE the "classic" TiVo interface. I HATE the Facebook type interface. I don't care what TiVo thinks I might like to watch nor do I care what other people like to watch. If I wanted to know I would ask them.
I for one am not sure about all the vehemence. I am an original adopter (had a 4 digit SN) and have owned a Series 1, 2, 3 and premier (all upgrades via the VIP program for early adopters), and am excited for this application.
Not sure why I'd want to stream from my tivo locally to my ios device (slignbox style when I am away is useful, but in my house?) That's why I built a home theater is to watch HD in gorgeous HD, not on a 1024x768 screen!!! So not sure why this is such a deal breaker for folks. I do use the ability to transfer files to my mac via toast, and rip things, but not too often (a concert here and there), and that is painfully slow, as I assume the assign a very low priority to file transfers.
The biggest feature I look forward to is not having to navigate the SLOOOW flash menus as often. I have a centralized remote control, and I am often several clicks ahead of the tivo, which is very frustrating (and often ends me up in alternate functions). Fast scrolling of the guide will be awesome (especially with the 1500 channels of FiOS)
I love and rely on my TiVos but won't buy any more - I'm just sick of being screwed over ... ridiculous billing, problem-plagued software that is rarely updated ... and then this. Screw me Tivo ? OK, Screw you!

The app needs to at least support some of the basic functionality in "older" TiVoHD and S3 models. I have 3 HD's and just can't stomach the "upgrade" cost of converting one, let alone all three. The Comcast DVR, while certainly no TiVo, looks more and more attractive especially with TiVo's continued approach to screw their installed base.
Hold up, this is a scheduling app?! Tivo, I dearly love thee, but you're making me question your desire for relevance.
I'll make it simple: Stream video from Tivo to iDevice.
Less simple: I want to watch the video recorded by my Tivo on my iPad whilst I lie away from the couch. Even play that video out to my AppleTV in a location I don't have a Tivo (don't worry I own two boxes currently, over the years you've received a good deal of revenue from me).
Tivo, your job is to record television shows for me, but you need to loosen your grip on how I play those shows back.
iTV does everything that this app will do. I have a TivoHD and I'm disappointed that Tivo won't support it with their new app. I'll just continue using iTV.

I have a series3 and a slingbox. I can do pretty much everything this app can do AND stream.
To me the app is lame.
The app is pretty nice. I've been using it as a BT and I'm pretty impressed. The only thing missing is the streaming :-(
