Sparrow for Mac coming to Mac App Store

Released in October as a beta, the recent beta 7 version of Sparrow included support for advertisements that could be switched off in the preferences. When this version debuted, the developers confirmed that future versions of the email client would be available as a free or paid version. Now that Sparrow's appearance in the Mac App Store is imminent, pricing for this premium version has been announced. According to Sparrow's blog post, the pricing will be as follows:
The premium version of Sparrow will not include ads and will let you add multiple accounts, while Sparrow Lite, the free version, will include Carbon Ads and will be limited to one account only.Paid: Sparrow will cost $24,99 but early birds will benefit from the $19,99 introductory price.

Sparrow is now waiting for review...
shame about the price, nice app though.
January 26 2011 at 8:17 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've really enjoyed using Sparrow as my secondary email client - especially at work for a quick look at my personal accounts - but there's no way I would pay $20/25 for it. Back to the browser for me. $5-10 is the right price point.

I wonât use Mail anymore having Sparrow. But I do think price is quite expensive. App does not worth $20 (at least now). Iâll price it from $4,99 till 9,99$.

I would never pay $25 for a mail client, especially a minimalist mail client. To me the $5 price point seems good and will probably lead to more sales for them.

Memory hog/leaker. Leave it on and watch. Deleted beta for that reason.
January 25 2011 at 3:21 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is where developers (and I am a Mac developer so I can speak on this) get it all wrong - price point. Want to sell a handful for $20+? Or, do you want to sell over a million at the .99 cent to 1.99 price range? If they came out with the Sparrow client that was at 1.99 (or even 4.99) they would kill it. Then, if they came out with a companion app (sparrow for the iPhone/iPad) that included additional functionality for the iOS devices they would make a fortune.
Unfortunately, it seems like they are not seeing the opportunity here. I'll keep my money and just stick with Mail. It has rules and signatures and multiple accounts for free.
Sparrow is an insanely well done mail app. The price isn't fantastic, but because i love Sparrow so much, i would happily pay that price to support it.
With that same mentality; i think 20 max and 15 for the sale price is a much more approachable number. For both consumer and developer.
