Mac OS X Lion features hidden tribute to Steve Jobs

Apple's latest version of OS X Lion contains a plethora of new features that are being uncovered piece by piece now that the preview version is in the hands of developers. One little gem recently discovered is a new section in the Finder called "All My Files." This feature helps you organize your files by criteria, such as file type, file creation date and last opened date.

The icon for this new section is an image of a filing drawer stuffed with documents and dividers. Zooming in on the documents within this icon, one can see writing that is taken from notable quotes delivered by Steve Jobs and Apple.

The individual pages contain the following quotes with the text included within the icon highlighted in bold:

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. -Apple

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. -Steve Jobs

What a neat hidden tribute to the man who founded Apple and led them back from the brink of disaster to one of the top tech companies in the world. Click here to view the full version of the icon.

A file drawer metaphor is something I've seen before in the last 20 years, though I don't recall exactly where. It is not like it is an unusual thing to see.

Steve Jobs must be given credit for creating a new paradigm of integration, ease of use and excellence in the product creation process, regardless of what anyone thinks about his personal expressions or ways.

I find it unusual that people want to criticize him for some of his personal quirks, when in fact if we didn't have individuality, we'ld all be like unthinking ants in North Korea or similar.

Since I first saw (30+ years ago) a graphical interface this was my thought, dream, hope:
design a screen that presented a file cabinet and drawers graphically that
the user could interact with.
Drag that document to that Tab and see it show the name on edge. I never acquired
the skills to execute this nor did I ever meet Steve Jobs.
Thank you Steve Jobs and those you inspired to think inside the file cabinet.

I believe the wonderful first paragraph of your quote (attributed to Apple) was written by Jack Kerouac and can be found in On The Road. Can anybody verify this?

@Roy Whelden - No, it's not Jack Kerouac but it is similar in style to a passage from On The Road where Kerouac states that "the only people for me are the mad ones..." (you can find the full quote at various places on line).

@Mack — You're right. And I feel a bit like a dunce, as I've been quoting it for many years and attributing it to Kerouac. Oh well...

Is it just me, or would this be extremely creepy if Mr. Jobs were to (God forbid) pass away?

@Dimwit - It's just you. I think it's wonderful - beautifully designed, great attention to detail and goes the extra mile. It says everything about Steve Jobs and about Apple no matter what the future holds.

TextEdit has this on its icon too, prefixed with a "Dear Kate" and signed "Take Care, John Appleseed"

Apple have the "Here's to the crazy ones" quote literally everywhere, from icons like this to developer sample code.

I've not seen this many quotes on one icon before though - theres 7 in total, 5 from Steve Jobs himself. The link in the article (I've put it below too) shows all the quotes in it.

"Here's to the crazy ones" is the text of TextEdit, as well, and has been for a long time.
