Talkcast reminder: Oscar night show 10pm ET

It's the biggest night in show business, but just in case you're not caught up in the Hollywood horse race (go Hurt Locker!) you're welcome to join Mike Schramm and I for our Sunday night Talkcast, as we dive into all things Mac, iPhone and iPad.

This week, of course, the big news was the announcement of the on-sale date for Apple's newest platform and the teaser of Steam for Mac, but there's also a lot coming up at the Game Developer's Conference over the next few days; we'll preview it with you. As always, your calls and questions help us make the show the best it can be.

To participate on TalkShoe, you can use the browser-only client, the embedded Facebook app, or the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client; however, for maximum fun, you should call in. For the web UI, just click the "TalkShoe Web" button on our profile page at 10 pm Sunday. To call in on regular phone or VoIP lines (take advantage of your free cellphone weekend minutes if you like): dial (724) 444-7444 and enter our talkcast ID, 45077 -- during the call, you can request to talk by keying in *8.

If you've got a headset or microphone handy on your Mac, you can connect via the free Gizmo or X-Lite SIP clients; basic instructions are here. Talk with you then!

Talkcast reminder: 10 pm tonight, special guest Shawn King

It's talkcast time again, and tonight we'll be joined by a special guest: Your Mac Life's own Shawn King (see the Macworld interview with him posted earlier this evening). We'll get Shawn's perspective on Macworld expo, the upcoming iPad launch, and the rest of the Mac and iPhone market -- plus, as always, we'll take your calls and questions. Join in, won't you?

To participate on TalkShoe, you can use the browser-only client, the embedded Facebook app, or the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client; however, for maximum fun, you should call in. Talkcast tonight, 10PM ET: Macworld Expo 2010, the aftermath

We're live tonight, with those of us who are sad not to have been at Macworld Expo 2010 (yes, that mostly means Kelly... I'm already saving my pennies for next year!), and hopefully some of us will be able to scrape together enough energy to give some live wrapup action. As per (recent) tradition, I'm sure we'll hear the word iPad once or twice, we'll chat about the first TUAW booth experience, and how all the technology bringing live floor reports behaved, or didn't. Not to mention we'll have all sorts of other things to talk about, since you'll be there with your own burning topics, right?

We'll kick things off at 10pm Eastern (7pm Pacific); hopefully those in the Pacific time zone not celebrating some sort of arrow-based holiday can join us. Once you sign in on Talkshoe, you'll be able to call in with your own phone and chat live with TUAW bloggers and listeners. (Pro tip: This is my favorite part, interacting with all of you. So make it worth my while to be hanging with you tonight, OK? OK!)

To participate on TalkShoe, you can use the browser-only client, the embedded Facebook app, or the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client; however, for maximum fun, you should call in. For the web UI, just click the "TalkShoe Web" button on our profile page at 10 pm Sunday. Talkcast tonight, 10 pm ET: Macworld Expo preview

We're back live tonight with the usual gang of ruffians, this time (partially) live from San Francisco as we warm up for Macworld Expo 2010! So what if the iPad isn't out for a few more weeks? We're revved up for the show -- it's our first year with a booth of our own, and our first year livestreaming video directly from the expo floor -- so what we need now is to hear from you. What coverage do you want to see, which products do you want reviews, who are the pundits and industry veterans you want to hear from? C'mon & call the show to let us know.

We'll kick things off at 10pm Eastern (7pm Pacific); hopefully the Superbowl will be over by then, and if not, we'll vamp. Once you sign in on Talkshoe, you'll be able to call in with your own phone and chat live with TUAW bloggers and listeners. See you then!

Last week's show featured our own Kelly G. in her first hosting opportunity, and a hearty helping of tablet tea-leaf reading. You can download the show on iTunes or direct from Talkshoe.

Tonight, we have a special guest, and a great opportunity for our listeners to ask their questions about the imminent Macworld Conference & Expo, which starts the 2nd week in February. Live at 5 (PM ET, that is): TUAW TV Live

Join TUAW Lead Blogger Steve Sande today at 5 PM ET (2 PM PT) as he hosts the first-ever TUAW TV Live broadcast. We'll be broadcasting live on Ustream (see live window below) and feel free to join in on the fun by using the chat window to talk with Steve about any topic (as long as it's Apple-oriented) that interests you.

Today's possible topics include addictive iPhone apps, some news we might not be posting, why remanufactured inkjet printer cartridges might not be a good idea, a quirky idea that's helpful for any MacBook owner, what one Apple product you'd like for Christmas, and what you'd like to see as topics on future episodes of TUAW TV Live.

Talkcast 10pm tonight: It's a bird, it's a plane, it's the Googlephone

We had a fun show last week, as we had a crowd of several TUAW team members; we were also joined (about halfway through) by our friend and frequent guest Ross Rubin of Engadget and NPD. The hour passed by with us mulling Apple's Lala acquisition and what the company might choose to do with this newly bought expertise. You can download the shows direct from Talkshoe or subscribe on iTunes.

Tonight, we're back live at 10 pm ET with the usual gang of ruffians, and at least two stories to talk about: the impending arrival of the Googlephone, and the unfortunate display problems and shipping delays for the 27" iMacs. Of course, we're happy to be detoured and derailed by your comments, questions and pontifications... but we won't know about any of those unless you call in and join us.

To participate on TalkShoe, you can use the browser-only client, the embedded Facebook app, or the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client; however, for maximum fun, you should call in. For the web UI, just click the "TalkShoe Web" button on our profile page at 10 pm Sunday. If you've got a headset or microphone handy on your Mac, you can connect via the TalkShoe 'ShoePhone' VoIP client or with the free Gizmo (now a Google product) or X-Lite SIP clients; basic instructions are here. Talk with you soon!

Talkcast tonight: Holiday gift suggestions

You can catch last week's show, the deep dive on the Psystar summary judgment with Lauren, via iTunes or Talkshoe. Granted, it was a bit single-minded compared to our usual attention deficit-driven topic hop, but I enjoyed it!

Tonight, we're going to cover the week in review as we often do; plus we'll take your calls and suggestions for our holiday gift guide choices. It's a great time to drop hints to family and friends about what you're hoping to get (for the record, the entire TUAW staff looks good in cashmere). Do join us.

TUAW's Steve Sande provides gift ideas on the latest MacJury podcast

Here it is, T-7 days until Black Friday, and you don't have any gift ideas?

I joined MacJury podcaster Chuck Joiner earlier this week to provide my ideas for gifting. This was part two of a holiday gift ideas episode on the popular podcast.

Joining me on the podcast were MacMouseCalls support genius (and grandmother) Pat Fauquet, Julio Ojeda-Zapata from the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and The Mac Observer's Jeff Gamet.

Storage seemed to be a popular gift idea from the panelists, along with iPhone / Mac jewelry, video tools, and even some freebies. I take no responsibility for the singing that was taking place...

You can listen to MacJury Episode 918 at the MacJury website, or subscribe to the podcast in iTunes.

Tip of the Day

Customize your desktop. While in the Finder, command-click (right-click) and choose 'Show View Options'. A box will appear allowing you to change the size of desktop icons, their spacing, text size and the position of icon labels.
