This is the general screen for the preferences program. The UI is beautiful, and the controls are easy to use. Note that I did not register on this machine, as I'm installing it on a new computer.
- Tips & Help
The application is very easy to use, but if you run into any difficulties, there's an tip screen in the preferences or you can see the online help.
- CPU Display Settings
So, you have an octo-core Mac Pro and want to keep an eye on all of those cores? Here's how you can set that up.
- Memory Preferences
It's easy to keep an eye on memory usage through the Memory menu item, and here's where you can set up the display.
- Disk Usage
To keep an eye on the available capacity of every attached disk, you can set up iStat Menus 3 to display the used and available storage.
- Disk Activity
iStat Menus is also great for checking to see how busy all of those drives are at any particular point in time.
VERY useful menu in iStat Menus, since it lets you see exactly what is happening with your various network connections -- wired, wireless, Bluetooth, etc...
This is one of my favorite tools in iStat Menus 3. I can not only monitor temperatures, voltages, and power usage on most built-in sensors, but I can also control my fans!
- Date and Time
The Date & Time tool makes iStat Menus 3 one of the most powerful menu clock / calendar tools on the market.
Need to monitor your laptop's battery usage? Want to keep an eye on that UPS battery? The iStat Menu 3 battery monitor is powerful, and you can have various alerts show up.
- The Network Menu
From the network menu, you can see bandwidth usage, your public IP address (important if your ISP provides an IP address via DHCP), and more.
iStat Menus 3 provides a good amount of detail on CPU usage, and you can watch to see what each core is doing on multi-core machines.
- Memory usage
If you think a particular application or process is hogging a lot of memory, here's where you can find out for sure.
The available and used space on each attached volume is displayed on the Disk menu.
Check out the temperatures and voltages all over your Mac, and play with the fan speed if you like.
- Calendar and clock
iStat Menu 3's calendar and clock are probably the most useful ones available on the Mac platform.
I'm using an iMac, but it's checking my battery anyway - my UPS battery.
