Drobo FS Network Attached Storage
- Drobo FS front shot
The Drobo box remains attractive with the addition of this new model. There are small blue lights along the bottom to indicate percentage full, and the green lights to the one side indicate the drive status.
- The Drobo FS uncloaked
The five bays of the Drobo FS are visible in this photo.
- Drobo FS back end
That's all there is on the back of a Drobo FS. The power connector, the gigabit ethernet jack, and a power switch.
- Main Screen - Drobo Dashboard
Here you can see that I have two Drobo devices attached. The first is my personal Drobo (Teradactyl), while the other is the review unit Drobo-FS. From this initial screen, you can see how much capacity your array has and how much space is available, as well as what shares are mounted.
- Drobo Dashboard General Settings - Drobo FS
From this screen, you can control whether or not the lights on the Drobo FS are dimmed, change the time until spindown of the drives, and even turn on or off dual disk redundancy (the ability of the array to survive not one, but TWO simultaneous drive failures).
- Drobo Dashboard Network Settings - Drobo FS
Since the Drobo FS is a network-attached device, this settings panel in Drobo Dashboard provides a way to set the IP address, increase the MTU size, or even change the name of the device.
- Drobo Dashboard Admin Settings - Drobo FS
From this screen, you can change the name of the administrator for the device as well as his or her password. This is also where you can enable or disable DroboApps.
- Drobo Dashboard Shares - Drobo FS
To set up shares, users, and permissions, the Drobo Dashboard shares control panel is available.
- Drobo Dashboard Alerts - Drobo FS
If you'd like to have your Drobo FS email you when certain conditions exist (drive failing, running out of array space, etc...), you can set that up in this control panel.
- DroboApps Admin Tool
The DroboApps Admin Tool is in itself a DroboApp. It can be used to install and configure other DroboApps.
- Installing DroboApps
From this screen, you can install a number of DroboApps that have been specifically tailored for the Drobo FS.
- Upgrading DroboApps
You can upgrade DroboApps from the DroboApps Admin Tool as well. Here you see that the Firefly media server app has an available update.
