The leg strap can be used to hold the case closed when the iPad is not in use.
If you need to take notes while flying, you can quickly flip the cover back over and there's a clip holding paper or other documents in place.
Note that there's a convenient writing surface to the left. There's a slight tilt to the iPad that makes it easier to read while it's strapped to your leg.
Here I have the iPro Aviator strapped to my knee and I'm using an Alupen stylus and Noteshelf to take notes. It doesn't move at all when strapped to the leg.
On the desk, the iPro Aviator can be propped up with a flip-out kickstand that lets you easily view content in portrait mode.
