LaCie Network Space 2 Network Attached Storage

The Neil Poulton-designed Network Space 2 is a beautiful peripheral. There's a blue glow from an LED under the front of the device that tells you when it is awake and working
- Rear view, Network Space 2
From left to right; The power button, the power connector, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a USB 2.0 port. The latter is used to connect to a computer if you wish to use the Network Space 2 for Direct Attached Storage.
- Front View, Network Space 2
In this front view, all you can see is the one USB 2.0 port. This can be used to attach other drives or printers to the Network Space 2.
- AC Adapter -- it's global
The AC adapter is unique in that it can be used just about anywhere and comes with the plugs to work in many countries. Here, the shipping cover is in place and the transformer is surrounded by three different plugs.

Here I've plugged in the adapter set for the US. Note that this device is ungrounded.

Here's the network screen from the Network Assistant, which can be used to easily set up your Network Space 2.

Here you can choose to have either of the two default shares mounted automatically.
- Web-based control panel overview screen
Here I've opened the web-based control panel for the Network Space 2. This panel shows a lot of information about the device, and can be used to set preferences for many different settings on the Network Space 2.
- General Settings
In the General Settings, you can change the name of your Network Space 2, change the workgroup name for Windows networking, set the device up as an FTP server or UPnP/DLNA (or iTunes) media server, and set the date, time, and time zone of the device.
- Drive Information
The drive information screen shows how the device is set up between Network Attached Storage and Direct Attached Storage (USB).

- Printer and Drive sharing through front USB port
If you want to share a printer or disk drive that have been attached to the front USB 2.0 port of the Network Space 2, here's where you can change the settings.
- Automated copy
Want to set up automated copies from another drive to the Network Space 2? You can do it here. One setting even allows you to auto import upon attachment.
- User Accounts
You can set up accounts for a number of users, each with their own allotted private space on the Network Space 2. There's also a public share that's available to all.
- Detailed Network Preferences
Here's where you configure network settings for the Network Space 2, both on your local network or if you wish to set it up with Dynamic DNS resolution for remote access.
- Eco management
You can choose to have the drive's blue light turned off, to go into "eco mode" (spin down the drive) after a pre-set amount of time, or go into deep sleep during non-work hours.
