A video shot in portrait orientation will display using landscape orientation in nearly every video program.
In order to correct the video orientation, you'll need to use QuickTime Pro's Movie Property tool. Select Window -> Show Movie Properties.
Select your movie's Video Track and then click the Visual Settings tab
Use the Flip/Rotate controls to return your video to the proper orientation. The one you use depends on how you shot the video.
To save your changes, export your video out to disk to a new file. Many programs will not properly show the new orientation if you save to a reference movie.
