Proof that The Real World caused the downfall of MTV {TV Squad}
Jun 27th 2008 9:47PM I'd have to agree. Made and True Life actually have some substance, especially True Life. Made really caters to a younger crowd, but I've watched good episodes of True Life as recently as two weeks ago that actually addressed real life problems in a way people of all ages can understand. They've covered everything from military families to the porn industry.
Stuff like My Super Sweet Sixteen, The Hills, and Tila Tequila are nauseating, but people are addicted to them, just like people are addicted to VH1s Celebreality.
I would love MTV to play some videos, or at least more music oriented programming (Rockumentaries were great), and I would love VH1 to do the same, but those days are gone, and they're no longer profitable. I haven't seen the full length of a video of any song from any album I've purchased in at least three years. I don't know that I've missed anything.
Ford: Green cars could look like sexy science projects {Autoblog Green}
May 22nd 2008 9:17AM The Toyota Camry hybrid outsold the V6 Camry last year. No offense, but I think that hybrids will sell better if they are placed in existing body styles. There are a lot of people who trust the evil they know (Camry good, space ship looking vehicle bad), and it will be hard to sell them anything that isn't traditionally styled.
The first look at the official 90210 cast and other news about the spin-off {TV Squad}
May 15th 2008 12:56PM Wow! Shenae Grimes! I'm a fan of Degrassi TNG, so it's nice to see some of the cast members getting picked for high(er) profile roles as they get older. I'm also glad to see that the cast isn't completely Caucasian this time around.
How I Met Your Mother: Everything Must Go - VIDEO {TV Squad}
May 13th 2008 7:45AM Abby alone can't kill the show. Obviously the writers are doing a pretty good job of that without the help of a parade of guest stars. Of course if the show does go south, the only thing people will remember is that it happened after Britney Spears did a guest role, therefore she must be the catalyst. I'm not defending her because she's clearly got issues, but blame the people that make the show, not the actors who work on it.
Nick Hogan gets prison time {TV Squad}
May 12th 2008 7:27AM I don't know that the punishment will fit the crime, because we don't know how much of the sentence Nick will actually serve. Personally I think it's extremely lenient.
Want to write a comedy for Fox? {TV Squad}
May 1st 2008 7:02PM Fox is pathetic. They don't know how to schedule or support new shows. Why would we want to invest our time into something that will inevitably get canceled.
Was Kathy Griffin dumped over Jesus joke? {TV Squad}
May 1st 2008 12:13PM She was probably cracking jokes about her husband stealing money from her by the time the divorce went through.
No Rock of Love 3; riots break out in major cities {TV Squad}
Apr 29th 2008 12:58PM I think that with each successive season of these shows, the contestants get more pathetic. In the case of Rock of Love and Flavor of Love, the girls just get less interesting and more skanky with each successive season. The girls on Rock of Love are clearly groupies with few exceptions, but the girls on Flavor of Love don't know Public Enemy from their big toe, and that's insulting considering what PE stands for, and their place in Hip-Hop history. It's just boring now. We're over it, VH1. Give us something new.
Should Paula Abdul join Dancing With The Stars? {TV Squad}
Apr 29th 2008 12:40PM Paula has so many spine, neck, and constant pain issues (from all the years of dance and the plane crash) that I think she should sit this one out. Even if she did win, would the physical pain be worth it?
Oh yeah.. when did it become acceptable to have professional dancer/choreographers compete on Dancing with the Stars. I thought the point was for celebrities not known for dancing to try their hat as dancers?
ER: Status Quo {TV Squad}
Jan 4th 2008 12:41PM It's Mekhi Phifer not Mekhl.
Would you like a signed copy of Gary Coleman's pants? {TV Squad}
Jan 3rd 2008 6:13PM Doesn't anyone remember that Gary Coleman's parents appointed themselves his managers, drew a huge salary off of his earnings from Strokes, and spent much of his money? He had to emancipate himself and soon after the money ran out. I actually feel bad for him because he really didn't get much acting work after Strokes due to being typecast and his diminutive stature. Had his parents not squandered his money away I'm sure he'd be comfortable now.
This is not a Corey Haim who spent all of his money on drugs, or an MC Hammer who spent all of his money on his entourage and marble flooring in his mansion. Give him a break.
Writers not happy with Ellen DeGeneres {TV Squad}
Nov 9th 2007 5:46PM I'm never watching anything Ellen does again. The writers are the backbone of the industry that has made her the multi-millionaire she is, and she isn't supporting them. If I were working for her, regardless of the strike, I'd probably resign and find a job working on a set where there's more solidarity.
Whomever thinks that the writers don't deserve more money is an ass. These people work round the clock to put together great material that the networks and executives cut, edit, and sterilize. They do all of this and their material gets re-purposed for DVDs and the web which they don't get any part of! They deserve to see residuals for their work no matter where it appears!
You should be ashamed of yourself if you think that the stuff that ends up on TV is the fault of the writers. Most of the good material is a mere shadow of its original form by the time it airs due to interference from suits and standards and practices. Good shows are given bad time slots and canceled before they find an audience, or they get bounced around the schedule and the fans miss it. How about you blame the poor state of television on the execs who are responsible for ruining a good thing in the name of profit?
Tim Kring apologizes to Heroes fans {TV Squad}
Nov 7th 2007 9:07PM At least Kring sees the flaws in the development and pacing of Season 2 so far. If the Lost people had seen the flaws in opening up too many threads and introducing new/useless characters, watching it might feel more like fun and less like homework.
Grey's Anatomy: Kung Fu Fighting {TV Squad}
Nov 2nd 2007 12:59PM Hahn is awesome. I love the fact that you know she could steamroll over just about every woman in that hospital with the exception of Bailey. I also like to see Christina get shut down. I think that now that Burke is gone, taking her unfair advantage with him, Christina is going to have to play on a more level playing field with the others. I hope Hahn continues to choose the intern that is most well suited for the case rather than the one who might know the surgery the best. I can't wait to see her continue to put pretty and prettier in their place along with the chief if necessary.
I'm completely indifferent about Meredith and her relationship(s). That shouldn't be the case for the lead character in a series. I'm also indifferent about Alex. I think it's time for him to get over Ava, but for Lexie? C'mon. Everyone knows she's gonna want more out of Alex than he can give of himself. The only two women he'd softened for are gone now and he can't have Izzie, so he'll likely become a total ass once again. Maybe he'll even tap Callie just to get George's guile up.
I am tired of people hating on the George/Izzie relationship. Maybe they'll be able to love and heal each other because they both had some really bad experiences. If that's the most they get out of that relationship, it's still a win win for them.
Isn't it about time Sloane developed real feelings for a chick? Maybe he'll hook up with Callie and fall for her. I think it'd be fun if he were in a relationship for a while and Derek wasn't. A little role reversal would be an interesting twist. It is good, however, to see them actually operating as friends again though.
Ugly Betty: Something Wicked This Way Comes {TV Squad}
Nov 2nd 2007 12:40PM Wicked? Really? People pay real money to see that? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Broadway plays, but that was drivel.
Anyway, I'm still having problems dealing with why so many people would be down on Betty for being with Henry (by her own choosing) knowing that he could be leaving in 5 months. She's an adult, right? Everyone who is trying to protect her has been helped (or even saved) by Betty's quick thinking and solid decision making skills in the past, right? She's capable of making tough decisions and following through, right? Well what's the big deal? Hilda knows how Betty feels. If she could have another minute with Santos she wouldn't let a little pain and suffering get in the way of that. Betty has sacrificed for everyone, and now she just wants some time with Henry for herself, but her Father and Daniel are just annoying. Ignacio should know how Betty feels having lost his wife. Daniel is butting in at the wrong time. Ugh.
Scrubs: My Hard Labor {TV Squad}
Nov 2nd 2007 12:31PM As long as Kim goes away I'll be happy. JD really is a good guy (too good) to get to the point where he can even stay in a room with Kim without wanting to poke her eyes out. It's also nice of him to want to do good by the kid and it was probably one of the most grown-up and manly things he's ever done. Whomever thinks that he's not mature enough to be with Elliott obviously hasn't watched the past few episodes. Stepping up to take responsibility after the psycho mother of your child runs away and hides the pregnancy.. that's just huge. Elliott wasn't mature enough to stop the wedding juggernaut until right before it was supposed to happen because she was desperate to get married and who she married didn't matter. Puh-lease. Show me how she's more mature than JD, really..
Pushing Daisies: Girth {TV Squad}
Oct 31st 2007 10:31PM It's time for Ned to put Chuck back into the ground. She's starting to get increasingly annoying.
Dancing With The Stars: Week 6 results {TV Squad}
Oct 31st 2007 7:47PM If you listen to the commentary from actual dance professionals both on and off the show they're very clear that Sabrina's most recent performance was sloppy due to bad footwork. It doesn't matter how energetic you are if you're plodding across the stage like a horse. Hip-Hop and pop dancing training has absolutely no relation to Ballroom and Sabrina's brash personality, cockiness, poor costume choices, and sloppy footwork did more than enough to get her eliminated. It doesn't matter how energetic you are or how you attack a dance number if you miss the point of the dance and don't do the music justice. Watching Sabrina is like watching a snow plow skid down an icy hill.
As far as the other older contestants and their lackluster performances.. it's a popularity contest and a good personality can go a long way as it has in previous seasons. With all Jane has gone through, I think she might be the next person to get eliminated (or leave if she doesn't get over her food poisoning). In the end it comes down to having a loyal fanbase which Sabrina obviously didn't have. Good riddance.
Dancing With The Stars: Week 6 results {TV Squad}
Oct 31st 2007 11:27AM All of you deluded conspiracy theorists who insist that Sabrina was removed from the show because of her previous dance experience need to do two things. You need to realize that the other Pop stars that were on the show, Mel B included, have spent a lot more time dancing and performing choreography for a living, and they have all made it farther through the competition than Sabrina.
The other thing you should do is watch Fox's So You Think You Can Dance over the summer (or on MTV in repeats). There you will see professional and amateur dancers with training in a specific area forced to do dances outside their normal genre. Take extra time to watch the Hip-Hop/Urban dancers perform Ballroom, and the Ballroom dancers perform anything outside of Ballroom. The vast majority of them struggle, especially at the beginning. Going from solo dance to partnering is extremely hard, and watching Ballroom dancers perform solo is painful to watch at times. The point is that anyone who compares Pop/Jazz/Hip-Hop (which is what most of these pop groups perform on stage and in videos) to ballroom is both blind and ignorant of dance in general. There is nothing in the pop genre of dancing that lends itself to ballroom. The posture is virtually opposite, the extension of the limbs doesn't exist in hip-hop/pop. The only things Sabrina had on her side were her youth and her physical training. All of her energy couldn't make up for a bad attitude and lack of a fan base.
Truth be told, people tend to root for the older folk on DWTS. Look at Jerry Springer. Lots of people thought he was on the show far longer than he deserved to be. He was an underdog, he was older than most of the other competitors (if not all) and everyone loved his personality and attitude when he was on the show. Aside from his enormous fan base, I think he would've made it pretty far based on the fact that he was an underdog and that he was a truly nice guy. No matter how good a dancer you are, if you have a crappy attitude and think highly of yourself (either by dressing inappropriately and showing too much ass or ego, or by being a douche when the camera is on you), you won't see the end of the competition. Admit that Sabrina was fairly defeated because she didn't show us the best of attitudes and her 9 year old female fans aren't watching the show or voting for her.
Bones: Mummy in the Maze {TV Squad}
Oct 31st 2007 10:13AM Kudos to the writers for making Rider Strong actually come off as creepy. I didn't think about Cory and Topanga once until his part in the show was done.
And how about Lynsey Bartilson as one of the victim's older sisters? It's nice to see that she's finally getting some work post Grounded for Life.
