So You Think You Can Dance: Top 18 Perform {TV Squad}
Jun 18th 2009 10:20AM I have to agree. Shane is not overrated, but the dancers he's gotten so far have not been able to master his routines. You might want to think back to Season 2's "Too Much Booty" routine with Donyelle and Benji. Benji had no hip-hop training, but he still managed to give a great performance. Not every dancer grasps hip-hop as quickly, though, and that's what we saw last night.

The curious case of George O'Malley {TV Squad}
Apr 15th 2009 8:46AM I think if they killed off George, I'd probably stop watching the show. I already stopped watching Private Practice because Shonda doesn't know what she's doing. She's ruining characters left and right, and George was one of the most sane characters on GA. He's certainly more sane than Yang, Meredith, and Izzie, and he's been through just as much as the rest of them.
Engadget's recession antidote: win a Peek Pronto with a free year of service! {Engadget}
Mar 27th 2009 12:54PM I totally need one of these for my 77 year old father who just can't get the hang of computers. All he needs is email and text messages, and the Pronto would be awesome for him!
Grey's Anatomy: Stand By Me {TV Squad}
Mar 20th 2009 9:32AM People with brain tumors exhibit inconsistent moods and behavior patterns, so in retrospect, the writing for Izzie has been spot on, not inconsistent as you say. Cancer patients frequently go back and forth between wanting treatment and not wanting it, because they are concerned about their quality of life. For some people, getting another 3 months, 6 months, or a year doesn't matter if they're sick the whole time, especially when they can have a few weeks of relative normalcy with few or no symptoms if they choose not to get treated immediately after diagnosis. I'd say that now that we know that all of Izzie's weirdness was caused by her tumor, I think her emotional up and downs and her reactions are very well scripted considering she's got a 5% chance of survival with surgery, radiation and chemo combined.
Win a bag of CES swag! {Engadget}
Jan 19th 2009 7:41PM A bag of swag would be rad.
90210: Lucky Strike {TV Squad}
Sep 18th 2008 8:44AM I second that. The original Degrassi covered controversial issues (teen pregnancy, abortion, AIDS, interracial relationships) several years (early to mid 80s) before the original 90210 came out, yet 90210 got all the press for being so "groundbreaking."
Degrassi The Next Generation, in the tradition of the original show, is much more realistic than 90210, and easier for the average person (regardless of age) to relate to.
I've been watching Degrassi since I was just a kid and I'm in my 30's now. It's just a great show.
90210: Lucky Strike {TV Squad}
Sep 10th 2008 8:06AM Yes. Shenae is a face scruncher. Her acting was weak on Degrassi, and it hasn't changed for the better on 90210. My interest in the show is already waning and it's only on its 2nd episode.
90210: We're Not in Kansas Anymore; The Jet Set (series premiere) {TV Squad}
Sep 3rd 2008 7:20AM Please don't let Shenae Grimes dance in any future episodes. She was spastic when she joined the chorus of the school play.
The first episode of any show can be difficult. I hope that the writers step it up. I know it's hard to introduce that many characters in such a large ensemble cast and have the public remember them, but maybe they should've pared down the character introductions and worked on the plot more.

Apple's quality dwindling: My MacBook Pro sob story {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Aug 1st 2008 1:19PM Since when are failing hard drives anyone's fault but the hard drive manufacturer's? Not every problem can be attributed to Apple when the parts come from a half dozen different manufacturers. The cooling issue, however, is really Apple's problem, and its well documented so it should be fixed. The screen striping issue is a result of a combination of other issues, and should also be resolved by Apple. I just fail to understand how a hard drive failing is a reflection on Apple.
Tip of the day: Healthy hair for reals {Stylelist}
Jul 28th 2008 7:05AM How about Monoi oil for hair and skin. Moisturizes without making hair sticky, and doesn't leave buildup. Great for long hair and Black hair.

Jul 23rd 2008 7:58AM "I mean, c'mon - we all know that Mike is an idiot. Didn't we find out he had dyslexia at one point?"
Since when does being dyslexic imply that someone is an idiot? It's a learning disorder, and doesn't imply a lack of intelligence on any level. Einstein was dyslexic and struggled in school as a child, but he was obviously not an idiot.
Ugly Betty receives a new Val-entine {TV Squad}
Jul 13th 2008 2:51PM Every season Betty gets a little less timid and gets more self confidence. Her appearance will continue to change as well (as she is influenced by the high fashion community). Daniel will also get more confidence in his abilities as a publisher, and he will learn that looks aren't everything in a mate. Claire already sees Betty as part of her family. There's a lot of things projecting that Daniel and Betty will eventually find each other. Just because you don't want it to happen doesn't mean it won't happen, even if it doesn't stick until the end of the series.
I like the fact that Betty has dated a few guys. Theoretically, dating three guys in what we perceive as three years is really not a high number of boyfriends for a woman around Betty's age. Settling down at her age would be bad for the show, and would stifle the growth of the character.
Ugly Betty receives a new Val-entine {TV Squad}
Jul 11th 2008 2:10PM Betty will likely ultimately end up with Daniel.
It's the WGA versus American Idol {TV Squad}
Jul 11th 2008 2:07PM With the amount of scripted reality shows now (The Two Coreys, The Hills, etc.), it's about time that the creative people on the shows get on board with the WGA.
Sarah Silverman: best comedy actress? {TV Squad}
Jul 1st 2008 8:57AM I don't think Sarah Silverman should be considered. The rest of the actresses in the list are actual actresses who happen to be great at comedy. Sarah Silverman is a moderately funny stand-up comic who happens to be trying to act (sometimes successfully, more often than not unsuccessfully). I guess people find her funny, but as an actress I don't find her on the same level of talent as the rest of the women on that list. Sarah Silverman's brand of comedy just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe if I were 12 I'd be more enthused. When you stand her next to Tina Fey who is not only a brilliant comic actress, but a brilliant writer as well, or America Ferrara who is a brilliant dramatic actress with great comic timing, it seems like they threw in Sarah for the pity vote.
Proof that The Real World caused the downfall of MTV {TV Squad}
Jun 27th 2008 9:51PM Since it's no longer 1996, I would have to say yes.
Proof that The Real World caused the downfall of MTV {TV Squad}
Jun 27th 2008 9:47PM I'd have to agree. Made and True Life actually have some substance, especially True Life. Made really caters to a younger crowd, but I've watched good episodes of True Life as recently as two weeks ago that actually addressed real life problems in a way people of all ages can understand. They've covered everything from military families to the porn industry.
Stuff like My Super Sweet Sixteen, The Hills, and Tila Tequila are nauseating, but people are addicted to them, just like people are addicted to VH1s Celebreality.
I would love MTV to play some videos, or at least more music oriented programming (Rockumentaries were great), and I would love VH1 to do the same, but those days are gone, and they're no longer profitable. I haven't seen the full length of a video of any song from any album I've purchased in at least three years. I don't know that I've missed anything.
