Malibu Surf & Turf War -- The Rematch {TMZ}
Jun 23rd 2008 1:46PM This is going to be an ugly summer for the paps. Ordinary people are sick of them and their disgusting tactics, as you can see in this video, where the paps are obviously there to start something and then video it. Even with the strategic editing, the paps don't look sympathetic. This doesn't look like journalism however you want to stretch the definition. This looks more like the bumfights videos. If the paps weren't intentionally trying to get a fight going for the purposes of videotaping it, then why don't they turn the tapes over to the sheriffs, as has been requested?
Paps, there are a lot more crazy violent kids in L.A. that would love to get a piece of you. Don't think that this is going to be limited to Malibu. I'm hearing people say that it's now open season on the paparazzi. I predict we'll see much worse than this in the days to come if the paps don't modify their behavior and start policing themselves.
Violent Surfers Shred Paps Over McConaughey {TMZ}
Jun 23rd 2008 4:07AM Let me stress this point again. There is no such thing as a "private" beach in California. ALL beaches are public without exception. Access to the beach is another matter. So the paptards had a legal right to be there, but I still sympathize with the surfers and locals. The paps get worse and worse. At best they're a public nuisance. At worst, they're a hazard to everyone around them. Let's keep California's beaches clean: Punch a paparazzi.

Apple drops Xsan update 2.1 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jun 14th 2008 5:02AM This is what happens when a nerd tries to be hip. Sorry, Cory, but it's true. You did an awesome job leading up to and including WWDC.
Albums "drop" in the sense you were using the word, not software. The reference is to good old vinyl records, and how they would drop onto the turntable from where they were held waiting on the spindle on old-fashioned sets. Also, note the word order. The album drops. Saying the album is dropped, or that someone dropped the album, would imply that, well, that they physically dropped it, leading to a broken record.

Mar 27th 2008 1:06AM I think it's Tupac that you're this ignorant about professional use of color on computers, and yet still feel qualified enough to comment. Some might say that your uninformed opinion is quite MC Hammer, given that some P Diddy pros actually use 10 bit/channel and 16 bit/channel color spaces on high end work in the Ice Cube film FX and Snoop Dog print worlds, yo.

Sep 28th 2007 4:46PM So, Joseph, you're retracting your original comment that complaining to the FCC is useless and admitting that you were wrong on that point? I'm assuming so, since you dropped it from your list of points.

Aron, you're exactly right, but we're still not quite there in terms of having fir, free, open, and fully transparent markets. Such a market might be impossible to achieve, but the closer we get, the more prosperous we will all be.
Which is not to say that government doesn't have a place as a regulating body. Unfortunately, as things stand now, corporate interests game the system for regulations that protect their positions, and the politicians and bureaucrats enable this. Regulation to protect the consumer or the public = good, regulation for anti-competition = bad.

Sep 28th 2007 2:39PM The rationale behind locked phones that the carriers have successfully argued in court and before the FCC is that they'd lose money for subsidized phones. Apple and ATandT can't use this argument for the iPhone since it is not subsidized.
There is also the Carterphone precedent of 1968 that allowed non Ma Bell phones on the Ma Bell landline net, back during the Ma Bell monopoly days.
On top of this is the fact that carriers do commonly unlock phones after a certain grace period, and apparently aren't being driven out of business by doing so.
All of which is to say that Joseph is an ignorant and rude loudmouth who should think before he types.

Sep 12th 2007 11:30PM I'm starting to believe the MS fanboi lies that Macs are for people too stupid to use a regular PC after reading a few of the comments here.
@12 Bobby, The lack of civility really makes me want to kick some asses. Whomever comes up with a way to stab someone in the face thru a computer screen is going to be a millionaire.
It's not just about bailing on voice because of the cost, although that's the major part of it. If I'm thinking what Erica's thinking, it's all about the VOIP. Am I right, Erica? Are you now, as I type, poring over a dock pin out diagram?

iPhone versus iPod Touch: What to buy {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Sep 10th 2007 3:50PM Back to the topic and away from the storage tangent (I'm glad to see we were able to educate Chris without calling him a dumbass):
This choice represents a quandary for me, although I am leaning towards the iTouch at the moment. I do a lot of traveling south of the border, so I definitely don't want to be locked into atandt, and currently the only EDGE network plan I am aware of in Mexico is not that attractive in terms of coverage or pricing. So, most likely I'd be using Wifi anyway for internet access.
I guess the thing for me to do is wait and see how things develop, both in terms of Apple's iDevice development, 3rd party hacking, and accessories for both the iTouch and the iPhone. (I would really really love to see a VOIP docking accessory for the iTouch.) I thought I'd buy an iPhone when the price came down to $299, but at the moment it's not enough of a need to have as it is a want to have. The longer I wait, the more likely I'll get the features that would really satisfy my needs.
But don't let that stop any of you! Please, buy early and often! (The negative Wallstreet reaction to the price cut was/is a great buying opportunity.)

Both the iphone, the iTouch, and the nano use flash memory, not spinning disk technology. There is no drive. This allows them to stay trim. I don't know about you, but I'm all about getting me some trim. I expect we'll see the 16 GB iPhone soon enough, probably with the European release, but don't expect to see a slim form factor iPhone or iTouch with 160 Gb capacity any time soon. The capacity is constrained by the current limits of flash memory. When larger flash chips are available, we'll see corresponding increases in storage space on the iTouch, iPhone, and nano. We'll also probably see the use of flash memory on the MBs and the MBPs, but that's another topic.

Aug 28th 2007 2:41PM NutMac,
Apparently it's become a whole lot harder with Vista, even with other Win computers. I don't think this company would be in business if there wasn't a need, anyway. I don't currently have any WinPCs on my home network, so I can't try out the demo and I don't know if they will be offering a Mac standalone app in the future, so for now I don't have much use for this.
And yes, I know that you can do everything without this program. The point of software like this is that pulls everything together in one place and (hopefully) with an easy to use interface.

Aug 28th 2007 1:56PM Hey Mike:
Two questions. 1) Who the ruggedly handsome man in the pic illustrating thins article? He could be my twin. Weird. Nose is a bit different, but he looks an awful lot like me before I grew out my beard. 2) Are you the same Mike Rose that makes those hilarious videos at Channel101.com?
Thanks.
