Stay tuned for the TUAW liveblog of today's Apple music event

It's 09/09/09 -- finally!

Apple events are always a lot of fun, and the speculation leading up to today's press event has been incredible. Will Steve Jobs appear at the event? Are we going to see a new version of iTunes and some new iPods? We're always wondering if there will be "one more thing."

Join us today at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT for the TUAW liveblog of this event. As usual, you can add your questions to the mix, and a full complement of TUAW bloggers will be on hand. We will have our buddies Daniel Brusilovsky (of Teens In Tech) and Sam Levin onsite to give us the minute-by-minute update of what's transpiring. We'll also keep one eye on the other liveblog coverage from Engadget, Ars Technica, gdgt, Gizmodo, Macworld & elsewhere.

You can keep an eye on our main Twitter feed for the headline announcements, and our Ask TUAW account is always there for your questions and inquiries. You can also join the fun over on our Facebook page during and after the event.

Here's a link to the liveblog page, for you early birds.

Will the Beatles library finally arrive in iTunes September 9th?

As intrepid TUAW reporter Mike Schramm told you a few days ago, Apple has an event planned for September 9, 2009. Pundits are expecting the event to be the usual Apple fall event where the new line of iPods will be announced, but there's something else happening on September 9th that could herald the long-awaited arrival of The Beatles in the iTunes Store.

The Official Beatles Shop website is showing 9/9/09 as the release date for new, digitally remastered versions of the entire Beatles library. That's also the day that The Beatles: Rock Band is released. What better way for Apple to finally bring Apple Corps into the digital age than to give the Fab Four a home in iTunes?

Of course, the Beatles and Apple, Inc. have had a tumultuous legal history, and recently George Harrison's son Dhani Harrison was quoted in Blender as saying he didn't feel that the iTunes Store's per-song charge was a fair price for Beatles songs. He also mentioned that the remaining members of The Beatles were looking into creating their own website for digital downloads. Given the shaky history of most Beatles business ventures, I wouldn't give that comment a second thought.

Just last month, Sir Paul McCartney told the Guardian that in terms of the Beatles library appearing in iTunes, "The last word I got back was it's stalled at the whole moment, the whole process... I really hope it will happen because I think it should."

Frankly, I think the music world and Apple both need a little magic right now, so I'm hoping to see Steve Jobs, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Dhani Harrison, and Julian Lennon on stage together on September 9th. That would be even better than an announcement of a Mac tablet.

10/14 Apple Event: Who's providing live coverage?

Unless you live under a rock (sorry if you're a TUAW-reading snail), then you have probably heard about the Apple event scheduled for today. Since Apple doesn't live-stream their press events any more, we must sit around our Macs, constantly refreshing our browsers ... just like people did in the 'ole days (personally, I can't wait for the Morse Code Apple updates).

If you're inclined to follow the whole spoiler live blog thing, then here are a few sites that will be providing live coverage of the event via staffers on site:
We will also be providing a meta-liveblog of the entire event (just like we've done in the past), and will be providing coverage throughout the entire day. You can follow our updates via Twitter, and we also recommend tracking #apple or #macbook on Twitter search. The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (see the chart below for world-wide times).

07:00AM - Hawaii
10:00AM - Pacific
11:00AM - Mountain
12:00PM - Central
01:00PM - Eastern
06:00PM - London
07:00PM - Paris
09:00PM - Moscow
02:00AM - Tokyo (October 15th)

Yet Another Possibly Faked Apple Tablet Picture

As the minutes tick closer to Apple's Event and the mystery product(s) they will be releasing, the following TUAW-reader-submitted picture is either one of two things:

1) a last-minute faked photo of the MacPad, an Apple Tablet. Made probably by photoshopping a booting MacBook Pro.

or

2) the real deal.

I'm not even going to speculate. I know what I want, but if wanting something made it so, there'd be a whole lot of ponies running around middle America.

The TUAW "Create a Feb. 22 Apple Invite" contest

It all started with the supposed Airport Express invitation that showed up on Flickr, announcing an Apple press event for February 22nd. It was soon deemed to be a fake, and then two more popped up, with different designs (also fake). They weren't the best: in the Airport invite the perspective of the Apple was off, and the blue one actually misspelled the word "February." We know you can do better.

So, with that in mind, we're announcing the "Create a Feb. 22 Apple Invite" contest. Submit your best looking, most convincing, most plausible and clever invite to us by (when else) February 22nd by leaving a link to your creation in the comments to this post. A winner will be chosen by the TUAW staffers deep in our secret offices (a broom closet in the back of Penn Station) on February 22nd, and the winner will be announced on the 23rd. To the creator of our favorite invitation will go an Apple logo stainless travel mug that Scott bought at the Apple Campus Store (here is a pic of the prize) while in California for this past January's Macworld.

Good luck, and get cracking! Mac rumor sites are counting on you!

Tip of the Day

Use Spotlight as a reference tool. Type any word in the Spotlight box and one of the top entries will be a definition. Click on it, and it will bring up the dictionary application to check the word in either the dictionary, thesaurus, Apple database, or Wikipedia.
