Flyz Screensaver 1.1.2

I don't know how I managed to avoid earlier versions of the Flyz Screensaver, but I just came across version 1.1.2 on VersionTracker and I am pleased to see they've "fixed a bug that was causing the flies and maggots to accumulate at the bottom-left corner of Intel Mac screens" and "increased the maximum number of flies to 40." W00t!

If you like being grossed out, or like grossing out others, the Flyz Screensaver might be an appropriate download for you. Flyz is "an infestation of ewwey, gooey, flies and maggots, making a mess of your Mac's screen." And if that's not appealing enough, perhaps the price tag (free, although there's an enhanced version for $5) will lure you in.

Of course some people already have a similar effect without having to download anything at all!

Oh, how I long for the days when Flying Toasters was enough to keep us entertained when our screens were idle...

Modern Flying Toasters

The two screensavers that I remember most are Star Field and Flying Toasters. Star Field isn't all that whimsical, but luckily Flying Toasters more than makes up for that. Now, your modern Mac can sport flying toasters and toast thanks to Uneasy Silence.

This Quartz Composer screensaver is pretty slick, and best of all it is free. Everybody wins!

Flying Toasters screen saver for everyone

flyingtoastersBerkley Systems' After Dark screen saver might have been the greatest screen saver collection that ever lived. Immortalized on VH1's "I Love the 90's" and running on old Macs everywhere (I still have my floppy versions), it was insanely great. Who could forget the ubiquitous Flying Toaster? Well, UNEASYsilence hasn't. Dan has posted up a free version for Mac and PC (although you could hold out and tell people to switch to get it), complete with toast, and I couldn't be happier. All I know is that in college I spent way too much time looking at all those screen savers. And I have yet to find a replacement for that shoot 'em up game (with the purple spaceship) that came with it. What was the name of that?
