Google Notifier for Mac released (formerly Gmail Notifier)

The Gmail Notifier is no more - long live Google Notifier! The search giant has updated their official notifier application for Gmail to include alerts for Google Calendar events - hence the name change. I don't know if this has any effect on whether the Gmail + Growl utility still works, but this is a nice evolution to a handy little app.

Thanks Maxim Blinder!

Not only does the Hosted Domains still not work, but the FAQ item about it not working with Hosted Domains has been dropped. Agree with 49. Surely the hosted domains people are Googles best advocates and have made the leap into the Google cloud - so why treat us so badly?

For all those using Google Notifier, the new build 1.9.65 fixes both the login problem and the gcalendar activate problem. Works perfectly now for me.

This is another case of Google treating their Gmail-hosted beta users like 2nd class citizens. The calendar notifications do NOT work for calendars that are part of Gmail-hosted (domain) accounts, because the new Google Notifier is hardwired to treat calendars like normal Gmail accounts. Google, this is getting old. Please think about Gmail-hosted accounts when releasing stuff.

"41. I'm not having any sort of problem. Macbook pro, 10.4.7...works great."

Why does that deserve a star?

Ok, looks good. But do they finally support using https? The windows notifier has supported this forever, but it's been glaringly absent on the mac. I like my email to be at least a little bit secure.

Same logon problem.

And the submenu that showed a snipet of the unread mail is gone.
Back to the older version.

Gmail+Growl has been updated to support Google Notifier. Now that's fast!

To get rid of the login popup, just turn off the Calendar component under preferences. Also, it might be worth noting that a new copy of Gmail+Growl is out, if anyone is like me and prefers Growl notifications.
