iPhone ads c'est bon, non? French spots now online

Reader Guglielmo sent word that the first four French iPhone ads hit the airwaves today (also viewable at apple.com/fr in a wide selection of resolutions). The ads end with the tag screen of a November 29th on-sale date for the French model.

Unfortunately I don't speak French, so I can't comment on the ad scripts, but as far as I can tell they hew fairly close to the original US versions, subbing in Le Monde for the NY Times and other culturally appropriate substiutions. I do think that "un pâle imitation d'internet" is a pretty awesome phrase, though. You can compare the German and UK ads at their respective pages.

More new iPhone ads up on Apple.com

As TV watchers may have noticed this evening, three more 'stories' ads are now playing for the iPhone; Apple has just posted the new spots at http://www.apple.com/iphone/ads/ for your viewing pleasure.

The new true-life participants are Bryce, Kristin and Ken. Interestingly, Kristin and Ken both mention their websites in their ads. Kristin, an NYC ballet dancer, blogs at TheWinger.com about her career in the performing arts, and specifically mentions her "secret California trips" in blogging about her iPhone ad.

Ken, a theater producer of Off-Broadway fare including Awesome 80s Prom and Altar Boyz! (music by Michael Patrick Walker, my college friend and fellow Scotch 'n' Soda-ite... small world) talks about his iPhone use in keeping tabs on the fansite for his current project, My First Time (slightly NSFW) which is about exactly what you think it's about.

Meanwhile, pilot Bryce has the most practical use for his iPhone -- correcting an overly-pessimistic weather forecast that was keeping his flight grounded. Nicely done.

New iPhone ads showing up on TV today

It's football season, and you know what that means: new iPhone ads? Yes, apparently there are three new ads, starring Doug, Elliot and Stephano, all shot in a variant of the Errol Morris "Switch" campaign style. In these ads, the (apparently real, and possibly recruited online) iPhone users are standing in front of a black backdrop, relating the ways in which iPhone has changed their lives for the better. At the end of each ad, you see the backdrop in wide shot, with the surrounding street scene visible.

A quick review of the final shots indicates that all three ads were filmed in New York City (I can't be 100% sure about Doug, although it might be on West 24th Street...). Elliot is on Fulton St. in Lower Manhattan downtown Brooklyn, and Stephano's body shop appears to be in Chelsea, judging from the presence of a bit of the High Line crossing over the street and the sight of the US Postal Service facility (the distinctive red, black and white building) in the right-hand side at the end of the street. A bit of Google Maps investigation leads us to 506 West 25th Street, where you can see the "ED Auto Designs" awning right where you'd expect. Of course, all these shooting locations are within a cab ride of the new Meatpacking Apple Store under construction...
