Gear Live posts followup iPhone v1.1.3 video

You may recall that yesterday we posted a link to Gear Live's gallery of iPhone v1.1.3 snaps. In this season of rumors, we were trying to take it with a pinch of salt; we ended up with enough salt to make some Margaritas here at TUAW HQ, such was our skepticism -- and we were, it would seem, quite wrong to have doubted.

Thankfully Gear Live's Andru Edwards & Nate True decided to show us all what we can expect, with a full-blown video of the latest firmware, embedded after the break (all 8 minutes of it) with their permission. There's a tonne of exciting stuff shown off -- saving of pins on Google Maps, cell-tower triangulation with a single click (sweet!) and the long-missed hybrid Google Map (my preferred view). Throw in the re-arranging of the home screen and multiple SMS recipients (something we'd quite like to use over the holiday period) -- my iPhone is feeling very inadequate already.

Thanks Andru!

iPhone 101: Quickly delete videos

Even an 8GB iPhone will run out of storage space quickly once a few space-hogging videos are uploaded. The good news is that, unlike audio, videos can be deleted without connecting to a computer.

There are two ways to accomplish this. First, navigate to the video list on the iPhone's iPod software. Drag your finger across a video's title from left to right and the red "Delete" button will appear, as if you were removing email messages. Tap it, and your video will be deleted.

The second method happens after watching a movie. Once it's done, you'll be presented with a dialog box asking if you want to remove the video to save space. Touch "Yes."

No need to carry "Saw II" around after you've watched it, right?

Apple posts video about iPhone 1.1.1

Just in case you don't have an iPhone, or have one of those naughty unlocked iPhones, and want to see what all the fuss is about the iPhone 1.1.1 firmware update Apple has posted a video tour that highlights all the new features. The video even features the same dude as the original iPhone video tour.

I am all for Apple releasing all these cool video tours, and I hope this is just a taste of what we'll see with feature Apple releases (Leopard anyone?).

Tip of the Day

To get an instant map to any address, just go to your Address Book and right click on the address field of any one of your contacts and select "Map Of." The address will then be revealed in Google Maps on Safari. You can do the same if a data detector determines there is an address in an e-mail in Mail.
