Found Footage: Waiting in line for an iPhone 3G

Our good friends over at Engadget posted an exclusive interview from the line that is forming outside of the 5th Avenue Apple Store. In the video, they interview the first three people in line and ask them what they're doing. According to Daniel, the group leader, they are trying to "break a world record for most time spent waiting in line to buy something."

Top 100 retail landmarks: Apple makes the list

RetailWeek recently compiled a list of the top 100 retail locations around the world. What did they find? Well, Apple holds two positions in their list: one for the 5th Avenue store (New York) and one for the Regent Street store (London).

According to the list, the 5th Avenue store has all three key deciding factors: "excitement, education and ease." They go on to say that the glass cube is in line with the "DNA of the brand."

Does this change your mind about shopping at Apple's retail stores? Be sure to take our poll and drop a comment.

Two more Apple Stores confirmed for New York City

Cheer up, New Yorkers! Sure, the Red Sox beat your Yankees last night and you're now in 3rd place in the AL East, but there's good news, too!

ifoAppleStore is reporting that two new Apple Stores have been confirmed for The Big Apple. First, the borough of Brooklyn will host a store, either in the downtown area or in Williamsburg -- in other words, your guess is as good as ours.

The location of the 2nd store is more certain. Earlier this week, it was all but confirmed that a store will be built at 23 Wall Street. And don't worry, the construction workers have promised not to bury a Big Papi jersey in the foundation.

Last second notice: iPhoneDevCamp New York City

What do Matzoh, Gefilte Fish, and ad hoc iPhone development camps have in common? They're all scheduled for tomorrow. As the sun sets and Jews around the world begin to celebrate Passover, the festival of freedom from slavery, pale iPhone developers will be crawling back to their rocks after joining together at Polytechnic University for a free iPhone development event.

The event runs from 10AM to 6PM at the Brooklyn Campus at 6 Metrotech Center, Brooklyn 11201. Bagels and/or pizza will be served. Note that you cannot just show up at the event without notifying organizers via the website -- security has a list of attendees.

Another crew awaits the iPhone. The six guys in the front are all high school students who are getting $250 a head to pick up iPhones for well-heeled customers.

iPhone line forming in NYC

What would you do if you really wanted an iPhone, lived in a major city and had lots of free time (like, say, four whole days)? You'd line up outside the Apple Store, of course!

New Yorkers started an iPhone queue last night - a full four days before the thing goes on sale. Now that's an example of desire. I want one, too, but I wouldn't sleep on the street for four days. Probably.

Update: Now, if Greg Packer - the guy who is officially 1st in this line - had sold advertising on himself, he'd have a free iPhone by Friday night. Silly Greg.

Thanks, Dan!

Apple plans a third NYC store

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you New Yorkers get everything.* During this afternoon's financial conference call, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer announced that a third Big Apple store is being planned. It's been suggested that this building at 401 West 14th Street will be the third store's location. At 52,000 square-feet, it would house one heck of a store.

*Except when my Red Sox hand you three losses in a row. You're welcome.

NYC store cube as advertising space

Now we know why Steve loves his cube so much: It's free advertising space! Earlier yesterday morning (Monday, March 12th), workers placed a huge iPhone ad over one side of the cube. It features the now familiar image of a hand holding an iPhone and the line, "Introducing iPhone. Apple reinvents the phone."

So, what's going to be the next ad on the cube?

Thanks, Arnold!

Apple Store openings: Your reports

This weekend saw the openings of three new Apple retail stores. One in Quebec, one in Virginia and another in New York. As usual, we're looking for any reports, photos and/or videos you may have made over the weekend at any of these locations. Let us know what you've got in the comments. Here's hoping you scored a T-shirt.

New York, Virginia Apple Stores open this weekend

Make way, Quebec, you aren't the the only ones getting an Apple Store this weekend. Apple Store Smith Haven will open in Lake Grove, NY this Saturday, September 9th at 10:00 AM. This store is located at 313 Smith Haven Mall (in the town of Lake Grove) in the Lifestyle Center Wing of the mall. You can find complete travel directions here.

Likewise, Apple Store MacArthur Center will open in Norfolk, VA this Saturday at 10:00 AM. This store can be found at MacArthur Center at 300 Monticello Ave, Space #276, on the second floor, next to Harry and David. As usual, the first 1000 visitors to both locations will be rewarded with commemorative t-shirts. Visitors can also enter to win the "Grand Opening Sweepstakes," which will award one winner with an iMac, an iPod nano, a Canon digital camera and camcorder and an HP inkjet printer.

If you're going to attend any of these openings, please send us links to your photos and reports! Good luck and have fun.

Incase releases exclusive New York commemorative case line

iLounge is reporting that Incase has pulled out all their case-making stops and introduced a complete lineup of cases for Apple products that commemorate New York and some of its major landmarks. To top things off, these cases are exclusive to the new 24/7 5th Avenue Apple Store that opened last weekend.

The lineup consists of white and black cases for the 5G iPod, iPod nano and MacBook Pro. No word yet on whether Incase has been chosen to create the leather case for the giant glass cube that Dave mentioned yesterday.

ifoAppleStore to host Fifth Avenue event

So the Mac web is buzzing with anticipation as we all wait for Apple Store Fifth Avenue in NYC to finally open for business on Friday, May 19. To help you get into the mood, ifoAppleStore will be hosting a camp out on Thursday night outside the store. The first 100 people to show up will receive the cool commemorative pin pictured at right. It should be fun, and please let us know if you attend!

Apple store pr0n: a peek at the 5-story Manhattan glass cube

At least one Flickr user, bhaggs, has posted some images that offer a peek at Apple's new commercial monument to itself - the much-anticipated 5-story, all glass, Fifth Avenue Apple Store in Manhattan. As Dave Caolo noted before, construction is still slated to finish in time for the holiday season, so I only have one question: when is Denver going to get their own glass cube, Apple? C'mon, we have like... 1/100th of NY's population!
