Rumor: Philadelphia's first Apple Store in the works

A few of the rumor sites are reporting that an Apple Store is finally in the works for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It seems strange to me that a major city like Philadelphia would be without an Apple Store, but what do I know about marketing?

MacNN credits an undisclosed source as reporting that Apple has signed a lease to the former Brasserie Perrier restaurant at 1619 Walnut Street [Google map]. This is a protected building with historical significance, so there's a limited amount of changes that can be made to its facade. Of course, the Apple Stores are known for their dramatic glass storefronts, though more subtle facades have been used in Europe.

AppleInsider reports that the retail market has grown in that area recently, specifically across fine dining restaurants, shops and banks. Apple tends to build retail stores in this kind of market.

Good luck, Philadelphia! We're hoping you get your first store soon.

Whitehall, Pa. Apple Store set to open

Pennsylvania's fifth Apple Store will open in Whitehall this Saturday, September 29th at 10:00 AM. The store is located at 946 Lehigh Lifestyle Center in Whitehall, near J.Crew and Cucina Italiana. You can get full travel directions here.

Pennsylvania's other stores are in Ardmore, King of Prussia and Pittsburgh (they've got two).

As usual, we're asking any TUAW operatives who visit this weekend to send us stories and photos. Good luck, have fun and we're hoping you score a T-shirt!

Pennsylvania Apple Store planned

Attention, residents of the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. It looks like there's an Apple Store in your future.

According to Mcall.com, Apple is scheduled to install a store in the soon-to-be-built addition to the Whitehall Township Mall. Sure enough, a quick look at Apple's jobs page revealed several retail positions are available for that location.

Since the mall's addition hasn't been built yet, we won't ask our operatives in Pennsylvania to start scouring the area for spyshots just yet. But still...be ready.

Thanks, Jan!

Apple has announced the grand opening of two new retail stores for this weekend. The first is Apple Store Simi Valley, which is located at 1555 Simi Town Center Way Space #535, near the Center Court next to Eddie Bauer. You can find complete travel directions here.

The second is Apple Store Suburban Square in Ardmore, Pa which Scott posted about earlier. This store can be found at 61 St. James Place in Ardmore, next to Wachovia Bank, just off Montgomery Avenue. Both stores will open this Saturday, May 13th at 9:00 AM.

Tip of the Day

To get an instant map to any address, just go to your Address Book and right click on the address field of any one of your contacts and select "Map Of." The address will then be revealed in Google Maps on Safari. You can do the same if a data detector determines there is an address in an e-mail in Mail.
