Clever iPhone app prevents calculator pR0n

A tweet earlier today pointed me to an iPhone calculator app that really got me laughing, as well as taking me on a trip down memory lane.

When I was in high school, calculators were expensive (US$200 for a six-function calculator with memory, for example) and just starting to make it into the hands of students. In those more naive times, anything that could be construed as even mildly suggestive got a lot of chuckles. One of the more amusing pastimes was to perform certain calculations that would come up with a result like 5318008 or 3104558 which, when the calculator was turned upside down, would spell a "dirty word."

Well, TLA Systems wants to make sure that its PCalc RPN [iTunes Link, US$9.99] and free PCalc Lite [iTunes Link] calculator apps for iPhone are used only for good purposes, so they've built in a special smut filter that will block these words when the calculator is turned upside down by displaying the word "CENSORED." Their blog entry is very tongue-in-cheek, asserting that they developed the filter to avoid getting a 17+ rating in the App Store.

Personally, I think TLA Systems developer James Thomson is just brilliant at getting blogs to write about his products. Well done, James!

My Bare Lady appears on iTunes

Quite often in iTunes, free TV shows appear later rather than earlier in the week. This week is no exception. For every one who has waited with bated breath for the free, premiere episode of My Bare Lady, it has finally arrived.

The question on everyone's mind is, of course, can these American Porn Stars achieve critical success in London's West End as stage stars?

Well, maybe that's not the question on everyone's mind, but it will do for now.

See ya Tuesday for more free goodies.

My Bare Lady: Cattle Call
Things heat up when four American adult film stars are sent to London's most prestigious theatrical school to prove they can really act. These leading ladies are expected to each star in a classic piece of drama. When the curtain goes up, someone's going down.

24-inch iMac unpacking pr0n

It should come as no surprise that once a new product like the 24-inch iMac is introduced, the unpacking pr0n soon follows. These pictures hail from a .Mac user we know only as 'bigeyed' - yea, that's right: not a Flickr album. While there are obviously more attractive images in the set, I chose the one accompanying this post because of its sheer width; I can't think of another time we have seen an Apple keyboard swimming in so much styrofoam.

While there isn't anything much else mind-blowing, check out bigeyed's gallery if you can't get your eyes on enough 24-inch iMac paraphernalia, and congrats to all the lucky new owners out there.

[Update: here is a duggmirror link to the thumbnail pictures; unfortunately they don't have a way of mirroring the larger ones.]

Thanks Glenn

Flickr Find: Mac OS X Leopard Preview screenshots

I'm not sure if these screenshots are breaking some NDA, but Flickr user Alex Patterson has posted a photoset of Leopard screenshots. They certainly help fuel the fire on a number of theories spawned from our tidbit roundup posts, such as Spotlight being a full-blown app. A few of the images are extreme closeups or slightly blurry, but overall it's a nice set of Leopard pr0n to keep the excitement going.
