Ten apps you should know

Our friends at The Apple Blog (TAB for those in the know) have compiled a list of ten apps you might not know about but should. I am familiar with all the apps on the list, but there are only two that I use on a regular basis: Democracy and Paparazzi!, but they are all fine apps.

Check out the list for yourself, and you might find an app or two worth adding to your Dock.

Customizable Mac Pros available at Apple Retail Stores

Apple is trying out something new with the Mac Pro: one base configuration and endless configuration possibilities, including adding more RAM, hard drives and the like. Apple claims that this scheme gives people more flexibility than their old way of having three models to choose amongst.

The first thought I had when I heard this was, 'Does that mean the Apple Retail Store will only have the one model and everything else will be special ordered?' It seems my worries were unfounded, as Todd at the Apple Blog found out that Apple Retail Stores will be able to configure your Mac Pro in any way you want.

Quicksilver screencast at the Apple Blog

Quicksilver, you either love it with all your heart or just don't get it. We here at TUAW are Quicksilver boosters (I've said it before, and I'll say it again, a Mac without Quicksilver doesn't seem like a Mac to me). It would seem that we are not the only Apple centric blog on the block that is crazy for Quicksilver.

The Apple Blog (they're not official either, so don't worry) has produced a screencast (a quicktime movie demoing the app) all about setting up Quicksilver. This is worth a look if you want to find out about all the hubbub about Quicksilver, and you don't feel like installing it on your Mac.

Tip of the Day

Use Spotlight as a reference tool. Type any word in the Spotlight box and one of the top entries will be a definition. Click on it, and it will bring up the dictionary application to check the word in either the dictionary, thesaurus, Apple database, or Wikipedia.
