Macworld/iWorld 2014 Enhances Registration with Passbook, iBeacons

For those planning to attend Macworld/iWorld 2014 in San Francisco, you might have noticed an intriguing option in a recent email. If you opened this email on your iPhone, there was a prominent feature allowing you to integrate a pass directly into Passbook.

The communication from IDG World Expo included the following message:

As Macworld/iWorld 2014 approaches, we’re offering a streamlined way to manage your event badge.

By clicking the image in this email from your iOS device, you can add your event pass to Passbook. Upon your arrival at Moscone Center, an iBeacon will detect your pass and direct you to scan your phone at the express registration scanners, simplifying your entry process.

In addition to the registration convenience, the event will feature an iBeacon Scavenger Hunt.

A press release shared today detailed the activity:

This year’s scavenger hunt celebrates “30 Years of the Mac.” Participants will follow clues posted around the Expo Hall to locate and scan four specific 2D barcodes. Those who download a beacon-enabled pass and come within range of a Bleu Station iBeacon will receive hints to guide them to the next location.
