Apple to introduce iWork ‘05 productivity suite?
We mentioned earlier that Apple’s Keynote
presentation software was likely getting an upgrade to version 2, to be announced at the upcoming Macworld Expo. Looks
like Apple may be unveiling an entire new productivity suite called iWork, which would include Keynote 2 and Pages, the
word processor formerly known as Document.
The software will likely run on Mac OS X 10.3.6 or later and be bundled with most new Mac models, including the
mythical headless Mac. No word on pricing, but
speculation has it somewhere above the iLife’s $49 ticket price, considering Keynote alone currently runs for
$99.
It’s about time Apple came up with some update or alternative to AppleWorks, dontcha think?!

I can't imagine Apple coming out with something like this. AppleWorks is fine for a K12 classroom environment, but if they want to compete, they need something that is more comprehensive and is truly compatible with Word, Excel, etc. AppleWorks did a fair job, but it's just too much to ask. Keynote is a fine application, but could really use an update. I get frustrated everytime I use it. The UI is too clunky. Maybe a v2 will take it up a notch.
My 2 Cents,
Andy

A proper alternative to the Microsoft monster would be good, but what would be terrific would be a tool that incorporated the Project and collaborative aspects of Microsoft Entourage. This could incorporate iCal, Address Book and mail and really allow for proper collaborative working in a small business such as ours, where we work together remotely. We already use ISight to great effect, so a proper collaborative worktool would be excellent.
