Powerbook G5: foiled again?!
Does anybody else feel like they’re watching a tennis match? The Powerbooks
are coming! Wait - no,
they’re not! Wait again - ha ha we caught Apple red
handed! Powerbook G5’s are surely on the way!
Well, maybe it’s off again. Or maybe Apple is
paying all these shills to keep us on a roller coaster of suspense. No matter what, we’ll probably be hearing “Read My
Lips - No New Powerbooks!” until the day they’re announced.

If you're comparing the idea of a G5 PowerBook with the G5 desktop, c'mon - what about the iMac G5? Surely that'd be the starting point? I don't see what relevance the Mac mini has to the likelihood of PowerBook G5 releases. Different spec, different market, different everything, except it's small and silver.

Appple really needs to hire some new engineers and get the darn chip into the Powerbooks. I feel like they spend all their R&D time and money on the iPod. Erik

And if they were "just around the corner", I doubt we would have seen Mac mini releases right now or PowerBook G4 speed bumps like we just saw.

February 02 2005 at 5:55 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyTo be a total nerd and quote a famous imaginary engineer: "You canna change the laws of physics!" Look at the size of the heatsink on a G5 and try to cram it in a powerbook. You'll also need more juice for that CPU, which is going to come from the battery, so it's not going to last as long. The system bus will have to run at a higher speed to realize the potential of the G5-- more electricity and more heat. Water-cooling? You'll have to power a pump. It's not going to happen any time soon.
