Apple puts iPod photos into full retreat mode
There’s certainly something brewing at Apple
HQ. They’re asking dealers to return their remaining stock of
iPod photo models, both 40 and 60GB, as well as
putting a return order on the U2 iPods.
In addition, Apple Insider reports that iPod photos are conspicuously absent from the planograms in Apple retail stores, though previously they were in good supply. They also report a Motorola executive had some loose lips about an upcoming Bluetooth iPod - but you already knew that...
All we need now is for someone to put all the pieces together. I’m going to wager that we’ll see a “total home audio” solution that integrates music from your home server, your car, and your (color) iPod - perhaps a multi-component setup at a package price. What’s your prediction?

I believe that they are getting the iPod Photos back, is because, now the full iPod line is going to have color screens and the ipod shall be the same as the ipod photo. And the iPod Photo shall be discontinued.

My prediction is that I'm going to regret having bought a 60 GB iPod photo a week and half a ago. Teach me to believe the rumour mill that only the mini was being updated.

I DO think we'll see an all-encompassing solution as you describe...someday. But not this week. Why not? Something that cool would need a big press event and nobody has discovered one yet.
My prediction? Modest incremental improvements across the iPod line. Announcement will be low-key, the Apple home page.

This somewhat confirms what I predicted. That Apple would be making all iPods come with color screens and the distinction between iPod photo and a regular iPod would be eliminated. They're all going to be color and potentionally have all the same functionality of the iPod photo line.
I think the recall of the iPod photos is because Apple will repackage the iPod photos as regular iPods. Otherwise, why else would they recall existing stock?

One other thing...
Apple NEEDS to add Keynote compatibility to the iPods. I was stunned that the iPod photo didn't/couldn't play Keynote presentations. Now's the perfect opportunity. Keynote 2.0 compatibility would turn the iPod into a portable presentation system which is its own remote control.
I don't care for the ability myself, because I don't give presentations. But for anyone who DOES, this will be a godsend.

Another other thing ...
From my buddy who works at a camera store that resells Apple products: What if Apple let photographers connect their cameras to their iPods? iPod photo has you go from Camera->iPhoto->iPod.
Is there any value in Camera->iPod?
Any value in Camera->iPod->iPhoto?
Not sure where blueTooth plays in here, but I can dream :-)
