Tiger to bring rotation to a monitor near you
Tiger is on everyone’s minds at the moment. When will be it released? How much will it cost? What cool features, other than what has already been shown, will be included?
I can’t help with the first two questions, though I think it will be released fairly soon and I bet it’ll cost $129, but I have a solid answer for the last question: monitor rotation.
Observe:
It seems that Apple was showing off the new monitor preference which allows you to rotate the screen at NexPo 2005, a newspaper conference. With a nice big Cinema Display you will be able to see an entire page of a broadside digitally without having to scroll.
Very cool.
This is all unconfirmed, so don’t coming crying to me if it isn’t included in the final release of Tiger, I’m just one man after all.

Just to "confirm" Or is that "anti-confirm"? This is not a "feature" of Tiger, AFAIK. The ability to rotate is in the Video Card and the monitor. There's been a discussion on this for the past few weeks over at MacInTouch about doing this with a Dell Monitor. Admittedly, I could be wrong, but MacBidoulle ain't known for their accuracy.

Would make reading full page pdf's a lot easier. Maybe with a little bit of muscle and an instant void of my warranty, I'll be able to make use of this Tiger feature on my old 17" iMac.

Or if we don't lose it, wouldn't resolution instead be increased in the vertical dimension?

Screen rotation was one of the things that made the Newton so handy. I know, i know......but I can wish, can't I? Seriously though, we are not far away from having at least the resources to do such a thing as I discussed in my blog. Jonesblog
