Real's Rhapsody
Originally,
I was going to make this post about Real trying to compete with iTunes
and the iPod with the newly announced Rhapsody to Go service, and I was
going to point you to read more about it via this Playlist article.
Unfortunately, every time I try to reach http://www.rhapsody.com to
check it out, Real detects that I am on a Mac and redirects me
automatically to their RealPlayer 10 for OS X download page. It is
absolutely the most frustrating thing ever.So instead of writing about Rhapsody to Go, I decided to instead simply say that this is one of the most incredibly stupid and anti-Macintosh web policies I've ever encountered.
UPDATE: Here's the non-discriminatory Google cache of what the pages was supposed to look like as of April 21st. Thanks, Rob!

By the way, if you're using Firefox, you can pretend to be a PC by using the User Agent Switcher extension. Also very handy for some stupid websites that restrict their access to Windows users running IE.

April 26 2005 at 6:01 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyyour right... they suck in general... im just pissed that my subscription porn sites still use real to encode their videos. shoot!
April 26 2005 at 5:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyLowest cd burn rates anywhere? What's that meant to mean?
April 26 2005 at 5:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAccording to the Google cache, it isn't Real's main page. Good call on the legislation though. I'm going to get to work on that right now.
April 26 2005 at 4:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDon't worry CK, http://www.rhapsody.com just redirects to http://www.real.com. Even on a PC. So maybe now it's not like, totally, the most FRUSTRATING THING EVAR!! For your info, there's a weak info page for Rhapsody that has a download link, system requirements and not much else. But get this - it only works on a PC! The horror! It's almost like they don't want Mac users using it. Why can't mac users have every single crap program that the windows world does. That way we could install them, rip them to shreds in a review and then try to uninstall them for weeks to no avail. I predict one day in the future CK will try to introduce legislation declaring Mac users as a protected class under the law and they should be free from discrimination like this.
April 26 2005 at 4:51 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat is stupid. The site is available in Google's cache. But that is little concilation for platform discrimination.
