Fetch FTP client gets long-awaited upgrade
I have been using Fetch for as long as I can remember. It's always been a basic "get the job done" application that just worked when you needed it to and stayed out of your way when you wanted it to. Fetch hasn't had a major update in 4 years, though. As a matter of fact, it hasn't had any update at all in almost 3 years - until today. Fetch Softworks has finally released Fetch 5.0. Fetch 5 adds SFTP (Secure FTP) support and a new user interface. Other new features include "automatic support for StuffIt, Zip, Tar, Gzip and other common file formats, Automatic Passive Mode for improved server and firewall compatibility, faster file transfers, Bonjour (Rendezvous) support, Unicode file names, Dock progress, improved AppleScript support, and extensive online help."
Fetch 5 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.2.4 or later (including Mac OS X 10.4).
Single-user licenses are $25. Upgrades from pervious versions of Fetch are only $15, and customers who purchased Fetch after March 9, 2005 are eligible for a free upgrade. See the website for additional details or to download the 15-day free trial.

Or you could use a modern FTP app that's updated frequently and includes a snazzy upload widget:

This is great. I've used Fetch for my FTP needs for years and years. Looking forward to trying the new version.
Granted, Fetch is a pretty barebones app. But it's always done what I needed it to do and has never given me any problems.

Too little too late, Fetch. I always hated Fetch and quickly changed to Transmit (then it was known as Transit). Great application, and to date the only shareware I have actually paid for. Version 3 alone is amazing, especially with the dashboard widgets as mentioned above.
I remember back in OS8/9 days when Transmit would give popup messages to register; one said "we saved you from the running dog, please register" or something to that effect. Totally awesome.

Speaking of 'BareBones' apps, I used to use Fetch's built in 'open in external editor' functionality to edit sites using BBEdit.
Then SFTP became a new standard for security, and Fetch didn't embrace it. And didn't embrace it. And.
BBEdit eventually has SFTP support built in. And now there's stuff like Fugu.
Glad he won a million bucks! Too bad it made him slack off.
