Tomato Torrent 1.1.2
Nearly every time I mention anything having to do with BitTorrent, I receive at least one comment from TUAW readers insisting that Tomato Torrent is absolutely the best bittorent client for Mac.Well, there's a new version, 1.1.2, available today, so I thought I'd mention it. One of the reasons this BitTorrent client is so highly favored on the Mac is that it separates "the BitTorrent code from the Macintosh code, so that either can be updated without having to modify the other." There is no java involved, as with Azureus.
Tomato Torrent is based on BitTorrent 4.0.1 and is AppleScript-able. Check it out.

I progressed from the official client, to TomatoTorrent, to Azureus, and I'd certainly not go back... You just can't beat handling all of your torrents in one window. Further than that, you can customize the experience as you see fit; if you know what you're doing, you can greatly improve download speeds using upload and download caps, along with maximum connections and other miscellaneous connection settings. ~ SP

May 24 2005 at 5:26 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyyeah, i used to use tomato, but after using bits on wheels, there's no going back. although, the last time bits on wheels was mentioned, someone made a comment that bits on wheels was the worst implementation of bittorrent ever, and that no one should use it...but never explained why.
