It is no secret that I am fascinated most by the Apple hardware that I will most likely never use in real life. I speak, of course, about Xserves, Xserve RAIDs, XSan, and all of Apple's enterprise offerings.Just because I won't ever use them doesn't mean I don't want to read about them, and if you are interested in using a Xserve RAID in a predominantly non-Apple environment you would be wise to bookmark AlienRAID.org (which gets the Scott McNulty award for 'Cleverest URL I've seen in a while').

It's a very useful site. My company used it to learn how to setup the XServe RAID with Sun servers, as the XServe RAID is significantly cheaper than competing products. We have been running Oracle databases in production 24/7 with no problems for the last 6 months on this configuration.
