HP Hawking iPod minis

HP iPod mini Are you tired of paying Apple's exorbitant price for an iPod mini? Well, now you can pay HP the same exact price to get an iPod mini, though at the moment it seems they only have one color available (silver).

I'm sure this iPod mini will sport the HP logo on the back, and that is the only big difference between the two (since all iPods now come with USB 2.0 cables instead of the Mac friendlier FireWire).

Engadget points out that HP also is offering new printable tattoos that are sized just for the mini (HP iPod tattoo minis, perhaps?).

Quote:"So what's the point in buying an HP-branded iPod? An Apple iPod will work just fine on a PC once you format it for FAT32. Apple's software makes it very, very easy to do this. " the only software hp uses is apples.. anyhow, the partnership between hp and apple is a benifit to both companies. with hp's global reach and tiresome advertizing dollars, they can reach a windows based consumer and market an apple product brought to you by hp. visa versa, apple gets to have its name in every household, instaed of under 10 percent of every household

The most important difference is that if your HP iPod needs service or support, you have to go back to HP rather than Apple. Maybe that is not a big deal if there is not an Apple Store near you, but I think it merits consideration. They are pretty good about servicing iPods right in the store.

Well in our Apple-centric world we sometimes forget that there are quite a few people who see Apple as some small weird company and have faith in a company like HP... Then again maybe HP are trying to use the iPod to sell more HP computers.

Whatever keeps Apple stocks up makes me happy. So if HP wants to sell re-branded iPods, fine by me... (PS: buying an HP-iPod would be like buying a Toyota-branded Lexus and paying the exact same price!... just doesn't make sense...). As to technical support, I have heard that APPLE will provide it, not HP. Weird.

So what's the point in buying an HP-branded iPod? An Apple iPod will work just fine on a PC once you format it for FAT32. Apple's software makes it very, very easy to do this. I guess it boils down to whose technical support you prefer?

Actually we just bought a 20 GB iPod for my little sister and it does come with a FireWire cable. It made sense from your earlier posts that it wouldn't because more people who buy them have a PC, but they still ship with a FireWire! :-D

I hate to do this, but I think you want the headline to use the word "hawking" as in selling, not "hocking" as in pawning.
