Are we going to see the Blue Man Group in a Silhouette Ad?

blue manApple is switching to Intel. Who cares? There's so many different takes on what this means online this week, and I, for one, am already bored to tears with the whole topic. Most likely, all it will really mean is that we'll have faster laptops from Apple that don't feel like they are cooking the upper few layers of your derma should you be wearing shorts and decide to prop one of them on your knees. [Aside: Well, that, and Apple users will have to get used to Intel Bios settings to properly protect their machines. Also, I will now no longer be able to say things like, "Wintel sucks!" with the same fervor.]

Now, what does interest me is the marketing spin around the whole Apple + Intel thing. Last night, as the T.V. flickered in the background, I noticed everyone's favorite grown-up nightmare version of the Smurfs: the Blue Man Group. These three, rarely-blinking blue guys were floating around in jet-packs touting the improved battery power and processor speed of Intel's wonderfully speedy chips for mobile computing, and one of the blue guys' pants flew off as he jetted upwards into the upper stratosphere of the clean white nothingness in which he was floating.

This morning—as I contemplated the intricacies of the contradiction embedded in the name Blue Man Group for people that appear as large blue asexual beings, then began comparing them to the Smurfs, and then began thinking about Dr. Tobias Fünke auditioning to be a member of the Blue Man Group with all the mixed representations of his own sexuality—I suddenly thought: Are we going to see the Blue Man Group in Apple-branded adverts? Is there a chance of these blue beings banging on their musical contraptions in multicolored backgrounds while silhouette dancers rock out around them? Would you welcome such an Intel + Apple marketing campaign? Or would it just reinforce your perceptions of the Blue Man Group being a fully-painted group of sell outs?

Apple is switching to Intel. Who cares? There's so many different takes on what this means online this week, and I, for one, am already...

As a fan of Blue Man, I just want to make it known that Blue Man uses Macs in their shows to run certain special effects and projected movies on stage. Also, they did the Intel commercials because Intel was the only company that let Blue Man have total creative control over the direction of the ads. Blue Man recieved many requests from "blue" companies trying to use the "blue" image (Pepsi was one of them). Blue Man Group basically used Intel to advertise themselves. Also, most people that make fun of Blue Man don't even know what they're making fun of.

I can't stand that BING! Gun-gun-guh-GUH! that accompanies the Intel logo at the end of any commercial that mentions Intel technology. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a brilliant move on Intel's part to require it; it just annoys the crap out of me. (It stuck in my head, the Marketing weenies will say... but, it also pisses me off.) I sincerely hope that part of Apple's deal with Intel will be that they are NOT required to put that stupid sound bite at the end of their commercials.

Apple needs to get the Blue Man Group to go Rainbow Apple Logo colors for the introduction of the Intel Mac.

It all seems like things come together in the end. If I recall correctly, the entire stage performance for BMG is controlled by Macs!

the commercials are here: http://www.intel.com/intel/promotions/unwire/ads.htm notice in the print ads (http://www.intel.com/intel/promotions/unwire/ads.htm#print) that the laptops don't have a "start menu" key, it has been clearly photoshopped to erase it.

I still have (in rotation) the old Power Computing cartooon: "Let's kick Intel's ass!" So now we have to change "kick" to "kiss" right? That's a little frightening, but nowhere NEAR as scary as doing the same with the Blue Man Group.

Silhouette ads are used to advertise the iPod, so no, I doubt we'll see BMG + cool dancers with pretty colored backgrounds. Maybe Apple will use them but they have a history of having kinda visually calm hardware ads (like all the old ones where there'd just be a picture of the computer). BTW, a friend that I went to high school with is in the recent iPod ad with the rollerskaters. = )

[begin rant] first off, i cant stand the saying "wintel" espically wintel sucks...intel is not responsible for the crappy OS that M$ puts out... that is entirley the fault of the redmond devils...the processor, made by intel in some cases (cause lets not forget AMD, or ARM...), just runs code...thats it. the fact that apple is movig to intel is a good move and a smart one, but there i go getting away from my point... DONT BLAME THE HARDWARE FOR CRAPPY SOFTWARE!!! [end rant] ok, now with that off my chest...id love to see the blue man group in some apple comercials...personally i think that the pr guys from apple should handel it, based on the current sucess of the ipod comericals. the intel guys, while greative, i think that the would fail to capture the feel of a true apple commerical. apple has typically been hip, and cool, while intel had been quirky and kinda gimmikey. i think apple would do a much better job with the commericals.

"and Apple users will have to get used to Intel Bios settings to properly protect their machines." is a bios less secure then than open Firmware, and if so why? also i think apple are likely to write their own Firmware, as far as i was aware the preasent one is just a temperary thing.
