Video of a Dell laptop running OS X?
Could this be video of that mythical Dell laptop running the developers' copy of OS X for Intel?Maybe. It could also be a Dell laptop running PearPC, and emulating the most advanced operating system on the planet.
We all know it wouldn't be that hard to fake this, and with the Cult of Mac calling the leaked builds a hoax I'm thinking this isn't kosher.
What do you think, dear readers?

This smells like a hoax. It would be very easy to capture video on a real Mac OS X machine, convert it to (gaaack) Windows Media Player format, then play it back full screen on the Dell PC.

I think this website is so widely-known that the viewers already oversaturated the 10 GB bandwidth the server where the video was hosted. That's nice, if you see it from TUAW's perspective. Sucks if you haven't seen the video. Does anyone have a mirror?
Anyways, it could be real, since the current Apple Transition Platforms are running over a raw P4 motherboard, that is, a regular PC with a couple of software hacks and tweaks to make OS X run.

The person could be running VNC in fullscreen mode too. I do that alot on my windows laptop from my mac. I couldn't get to the video, but you could tell if the person is useing VNC if the application windows load in blocks.

Also notice the grossly long search field. Well, not -that- grossly, but, well, whatever, longer than usual.
(Sorry, I forgot to say this on my first post)

It's VNC. You can see the OSXvnc icon in the Dock if you look closely.

I, for one, welcome our black box overlords.
Seriously, I actually hope this is true. While I know it makes NO business sense (at this point) to merely license the OS to resellers, I would love to run OS X on some Intel boxes I have lying around.
The question is, will OS X now run on a PSP?

There's many possible explanations, but given how slowly it's running I'd guess it's PearPC running in full screen mode.
Either that or it is actually running the x86 version of OSX and is just a POS laptop.

It's a fake, check out Neowin.net for some analysis.

Oh, and I guess he created drivers for his hardware and for his video card, right? :D Don't make me laugh, people... :) There is no way to run dev version on anything other than Dev PowerMac or something very similar to it (the same motherboard is a MUST).

This is totally a hoax. If you watch it, the screen isn't fluid, it refreshes like VNC.

No, no, that's a developer copy of 'Longhorn' isn't it? After all, Microsoft's motto has always been: Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
The video doesn't show it, but the system crashed a couple of seconds later.
I love this 'OS X running on Wintel machines' stuff. I think it is great. Be sure to email all of these up to Redmond.

if you look in the dock there's a VNC icon with a triangle under it, hence VNC is running
http://exiva.net/per/fake1.jpg
and in the about window it looks like it says PowerPC G4
http://exiva.net/per/fake2.jpg
Also, the supposed release of OSX 10.4.1 x86 was just full of garbage.
And, I highly doubt apple wouldn't have put some form of security on the release... a proprietary bios or something....

The video ronald posted looks like a fake, too. Since the camera doesn't move at all, it is very well possible that the screen has been edited on.
And
There was also a little bump to the camera between the Text screen (sorry, don't know what that's called) and the grey apple screen, so he could have booted up his windows machine normally and then played a Mac start-up process in a full-screen video.

TRavis,
It doesn't say "Power PC" like you suggest. My father works for the FBI and I was actually able to use some of his software to sharpen up the text so I can really see the processor he is using. Turns out the answer was quite surprising:

That would be the post screen kt.
I think its fake because that looks like it might be a Media Center laptop (TV Inputs) So, if he puts the camera in the same spot on a tripod, he can boot the machine... record it's post then boot the machine to MCE/ Turn it to the TV inputs, hook up a mac with a s-video cable or something similar... and go full screen, resume recording and it will appear as if the machine is running OSX.
It's pretty simple to edit in iMovie. But like i said the release of OSX x86 that was "released" is full of junk... (the goatse.cx picture)

Looks like VNC to me.
I do this all the time and it certainly confuses people when I have Windows XP on my Apple Display and OS X on my iPAQ.
