AdJab on the Possibility of Apples with Intel on the Outside
Tom Biro, of AdJab fame, asked the TUAW team over the past week what we thought about the possibility of Intel branding on the new Apple, Intel-chip-based computers, and every one of us had an answer. Tom has posted a detailed feature over at AdJab with some key selections from our different responses.
Here's Tom's intro to the post: "After the recent announcement that Apple would begin to incorporate Intel chips into their computers over the next few years and the subsequent freakout and calm-down, I still only have one question - will those little 'Intel Inside' decals make their way onto the outside of Apple's historically clean boxes? The 'Intel Inside' program is not mandatory, and merely acts as a co-op marketing opportunity for boxmakers to leverage the Intel brand while sharing the cost of advertising when the Intel name is used. However, just as many PC owners had no clue what kind of processor they were using in their machines for years and years, there are probably many an Apple user who have the same issue - except the hardcore Apple folks, of course."
Head on over to the full post to see what Laurie, Scott, Dave, Jay, and I had to say on the topic, along with Tom's observations on our disparate thoughts and his own take on the situation. Make sure you weigh in with your own thoughts in the comments over at Adjab.
Thanks, Tom!

They can put it on the box, or on the computer case as an easily removable sticker which doesn't leave a sticky residue. Otherwise, I'll complain loudly. I hate all of the Intel and Windows badges you see on PC laptops. They look tacky.

I disagree with one of the points, that apple consumers may not know the name of the processor inside. Things like the iMac, iBook, Powerbook, and towers that apple makes all have the name of the processor. iMac G5, iBook G4, Powerbook G4, and PowerMac G5 have the processor name plastered over them in unique and attractive ways. I'm sure apple will find a way to do that. A PowerBook M? An iMac D?
More importantly, to most end users, at least the non-developer users, the processor will have no bearing on them. I'm just some guy with an iBook; as long as it runs OS X and is stable and works, I don't care what's inside. As long as it's not like a stinky dead hamster, again.
Oh, and one more thing. Stay off the crack.

Scott--
Who makes G4 processors? I always assumed IBM did but you implied that they are produced by another company in your comments to AdJab.

I heard stickers add horsepower....
Same here before I switched I pulled every sticker off every x86 box I evered owned. yet another good thing about switching no stickers.

G4s are made by Freescale (foremerly Motorola).
IBM only make the G5.

It might be done. If it happens, it probably won't be what we're used to seeing with the Intel Inside. Maybe it might be done like this? http://www.flickr.com/photos/21537713@N00/19551625/
P.S. That's just a crude drawing. I spent about 3 minutes on that with MS Paint.
