QuickerTek iBook Antennae
Give the QuickerTek people a gadget that is WiFi-capable, and sooner or later, they'll make an antennae for it. Their newest item to the WiFi-extending fold is a $99 iBook antennae that extends the signal up to 200 yards. That's 600 feet! The antennae comes with a 1-year warranty and is the "first antenna for all Apple iBooks with AirPort wireless capability, including AirPort Extreme. Get 5.5dBi of power and improve your wireless range and signal strength. iBook users get connections for other QuickerTek external antennas such as directional antennas for war-driving." War-driving with an iBook? But they look like such peaceful creatures...

This comment might be a bit late...but $99 is an incredible ripoff for this antenna. Here it is for $25: http://www.jefatech.com/product/RV245RD Just order the MC Card version and you are good to go (that is what I'm planning to try!)

I thought it would block out signal but it actuall improves. Same thing goes for my linksys router, coated the antenna with foil and i get way better coverage.
June 18 2005 at 5:13 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat's this about iBooks having sensitive antennae? Mine doesn't. My wife's Toshiba laptop regularly finds (strong) connections to networks while my iBook (just a few feet away) can't find anything but my home network. I don't NEED an external antenna, but I just might buy one anyway. It could come in handy someday.

June 16 2005 at 10:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe iBook is well known as an extremely sensitive wireless notebook (a combination of the plastic case and the built-in antenna placement, I'd guess). I used to work with someone who bought an iBook mainly for wardriving. Immediately after he got it, he wiped the hard drive, put Debian on it, and went driving. He said that the range was much better than his old Dell. Sure, the iBook may look like a peaceful creature, but it's a deadly wardriving tool :)
