Queen Elizabeth II buys an iPod
Seriously. Australian news outlet Fairfax Digital (free subscription required) reports that Britian's Queen Elizabeth II has purchased an iPod. A six gigabyte silver iPod Mini, to be exact. Fairfax Digital goes on to say, "...Prince Andrew, fourth in line to the throne, was reported to be behind the move.." So how does a royal get her digital music from her computer to her iPod? Again, from the article: "Obviously it is quite complicated to download songs, but I'm sure one of the courtiers will do it for her." Yeah, that's how I do it, too.

So will we see her Majesty in the next iPod silhouette ad dancing to Queen's "We will Rock You"?

I was thinking more along the lines of Abba's "Dancing Queen."

This article is poorly written.
Since when does a 6GB iPod hold 10,000 songs (and cost $400)?
I've got that many songs on my 60GB iPod (plus 500 photos) and I've got 33GB free.

I was thinking something more along the lines of "God Save the Queen" by the Sex Pistols.

Surely that will be "One Will Rock You" and "God Save Me" :-)
Also won't her Majesty's portable music player be a "onesPod"?

"Steven, could the price discepancy be due to the article being Austrailian (and presumably in AUS Dollars...)?"
Well, that still puts it at $309-$311 USD

there was a small arcticle im my local newspaper about it. they said, and i quote: "LONDON: The Queen has dipped into the royal purse to snap up an iPod, a report said yesterday. The Sun newspaper said the sovereign, 79, had bought a six gigabyte silver model for $400. The pocket-sized digital music players can hold as many as 10,000 downloaded songs. The Queens second son Prince Andrew was reported to be behind the move, having bought his mother a mobile phone and taught her how to use it in 2001. 'The Queen loves music and was impressed by how small and handy the iPod is,' an insider said."
so in short, she got an iPod. Who gives a shit?

I thought Queen Elizabeth II was a boat, a real long, luxurious one...the head of the UK royal household is Queen Elizabeth, simply. The 'we-pod' comment was funny...utterly funny.

To the person who asked whats a Queen as Elizabeth II, not the type who frequents the meat packing district after hours in New York. A queen is someone who's family line has through murder, lies, bullying, deceit, charisma, invasion and more than likely incest managed to convince (usually through force) the general population that they (either King or Queen) are better than said population along with fostering a personality cult around the said self-appointed title. If enough decades go by the queen and her lackies can grab the best land and with it the wealth from that land. However after seeing many of their fellow european relatives get the chop, current european kings and queens have managed to change with the times and are now actually very highly paid performers and tourist attractions as well as being daily fodder for the more sleazy sections of the UK press. Also they have a civil duty to actually meet the general population (the 'unwashed' as stated in royal circles), which is a condition of their duties, whilst putting on a royal fake smile and actually looking interested in what they are opening that day (hospital, office block, boat, plane, train shopping centre etc) That dear friends is our British Queen.

How can people tolerate aristocracy? Doesn't it follow the same rules as racial hygiene in Nazi Germany?
