Stewie Griffin iPod ad
Last night while watching The Family Guy on Fox I was very surprised (and equally amused) to see character Stewie Griffin's "iPod commercial." For a few seconds he was dancing around in a sequence much like Apple's famous ads. Pretty funny, and got me thinking of the other prime time cartoons I can remember lately featuring Macs and Apple products. Homer Simpson has been portrayed as using a fruit-colored computer on more than one occasion, as have characters on the ill-fated "Futurama." Seems that a lot of animators (or writers) are staring at Macs all day.

The family from the print comic "Foxtrot" has an actual Apple that is a computer.

Not surprised. Animators and writers are people who actually need to get work done. On what other computer could they accomplish this?

Don't forget the Futurama where the plot was somewhere along these lines - they went to a robot planet, and so there was going to be a foxhunt-type thing for the humans, and the one robot blew a horn to commence it. The sound was none other than a Mac startup chime...

Kevin in the webcomic at herdthinners.com uses a "carrot computer" which bears a striking resemblance to the G4 LCD iMac series.

I'm not too suprised by the appearance of Apple-esque products in animation and comics. After all, Apple products used to be, and often still are, widely used in the print and design fields, so I'd expect the same in other artistic areas. It is interesting to see how they slip in to shows in subtle ways, though.
Robert Knight:
Actually, its a knock-off; the iFruit, and came with a whole set of spoofs on the iMac. Originally Jason hated it, and it hated him, but over time that's changed.

On King Of The Hill Peggy wanted a new computer in the Y2k episode, and hank gets all meillenium terrified and gets her a grandfather clock instead so she's always knwo what time it would be when the world collapses, then smartens up and comes back and hands her a brochure with fruit shapes and bulbous round computers in bright colors and tells her "it'll be here on tuesday"
Yup, he got the computer she wanted, "a blueberry one"

BTW, the Stewie iPod ad was deemed as failed and featured the song "Warrior" by 80's has-beens - Scandal.
