Flash 8 Public Beta

Flash MX 2004 BoxesThe Flash 8 public beta is out, and if you're on a Mac running 10.1 or later you should download it. I installed it on Ambrose, my trusty Powerbook, and then visited a Flash heavy site. My initial reaction? This can't be Flash, it is running way too quickly.

Yes, it is that big of a difference. It is a beta, so I suppose there is a possibility that it will cause your Mac to explode or something along those lines, but I would risk it.

This is how Flash should be.

Thanks to Eric J for the tip!

Flash DID NOT get faster for me. Yeh my meter was 2advanced and has been for a while when I nag on Flash speed on Mac. Simply, a good test is to look at the water ripples at the end of the intro. See the choppy moves? On PC it smooth as butter.

peeweejd, Try using the new flash plugin. My pbook used to have that problem but now it doesn't. Also I have a vested interest in this working; I'm a flash developer, and yes I use it for games, banners for my clients, and basically anywhere that I deem something should be and act like an application rather than a web page. I've used flash for warehouse distribution centers, helping them manage inventory levels, and all sorts of other uses. Chances are, you will see a lot more of flash, rather than less. I'd get used to it. Remember when gif's were used mainly for ads...

i kind of agree with nikke. on the sites I go to, most flash is used for ads. I ran the firefox flash blocker for a while and found that I was enabling flash very infrequently. The only reason I stopped is because th eflashblock thing happened before adblock so adblock was not working. sure its used for games and some sites use it for menus, but its more of a hindrance on my mac. every time I go to a page with lots of flash on it, the fans kick in on my G5 imac. i usually close it real quick (or block the flash).

If you need a good site to test the speed: http://www.2advanced.com/flashindex.htm What do you mean by uninstaller, Charles?

The uninstaller for Mac is 279MB when the Windows one is only 179KB? Man I knew Mac programs are larger but this is way too much!
