If you liked Shiira 0.9.4, you'll love Shiira 1.1
Back in May I espoused if you like Safari, you'll like Shiira. Those of you who tried it, liked it, proving great minds think alike. You'll be happy to hear that Shiira has just been updated to version 1.1 - with a renewed commitment to Panther (10.3.9 and later), and continued support for Tiger.
Version 1.1 improves upon the already-kick-ass Tab Exposé feature, adds awesome page transition effects (Tiger and Core Image required for that one) and now supports Firefox bookmarks and the latest Growl. Check out the screenshots for additional info and download this bad boy today. Have I ever let you down?

Laurie-
I am using Shiira right now for the first time. My impressions are as follows:
1. It's definatley slower than Safari
2. It looks good, but kind of cramped on this site (with all those ads on the right)
3. Tabbed browsing works awesome
4. There is no RSS reader built-in
5. The sidebar is cool and useful i.e. the download manager
6. The page curl effect should not be feature to be recognized. It is lame.
This browser seems to fit my style of internet browsing. I like to multi task with out too much clicking around, and I do like the keyboard shortcuts, especially the expos?imicking. Will this browser take over for me in place of Safari? Too early to tell. I wish it were faster.
Thanks for a reccomendation on a solid app, though ( as if others you showcase aren't "solid" enough) *cough* the dog widget *cough*

Thanks for sharing your observations, Kyle. The rendering of this site appears identical to me in Safari and Shiira. The crowding comes into play when you have the drawer open if you don't have a large enough monitor or high enough resolution. Still, I MUCH prefer the downloads being in a drawer than a separate window like every other browser does it. No RSS reader isn't a deal-breaker for me. I'm used to NetNewsWire, so I tend to use it far more than Safari's RSS reader. I'm just as surprised about that as anyone, as I was really chomping at the bit for Safari 2.0 for just that reason. Funny how that happens, eh?
I am not using Shiira full time. Safari is still my primary browser since my profession mandates that I actually use the software that people pay me to support :) But Shiira is a shining example of all the things that are good in this world :)
PS - what's not to like about the dog widget????
PPS - thanks for trusting me enough to take a new app for a spin!

This is screamingly fast on 10.3.9 for me. Love the new feature to see all Firefox bookmarks too. Very nice!

okay, so i see how i can use the expose short-cut key, but i'm using a powerbook 15inch and all my function buttons are being used for something else.
i want to use tab expose! (please tell me if i'm missing something here)
ah and it just crashed on me... twice!

Daren- I am also using 15 inch Powerbook (1.67 gHz). When I set Shiira's expos?ommand to F9, it overrode the screen brightness function. Try that.
Laurie, I am definately going to continue my use with this browser. I really like the style and although I have a few complaints, it's still really feature-rich and out-does Safari in a number of ways. Now that I think about it, the compaint I have with Safari's RSS is that you can only have it auto-update after 1 day minimum, so with sites like TUAW, it is rendered useless (since I want to check maybe every hour).
The Pug widget joke was just added because personally I thought it was lame, but then again, others could find it useful...haha. In the end, whether it's useful or not, I respect the fact that you cover all aspects of the Apple community. I hope you didn't take it personally. By the way, I'm glad to have you back!

I liked this browser quite a bit.. However, what sold me on the Safari is the little publicised feature of emailing the current page's url or actual webpage via a shortcut (Apple-Shift-I, Apple-I). I found this feature so useful since I browse through many news sites and we exchange article of interest with one another a lot via email. However, it seems that the API for this function (according to Brent of NetNewsWire) is not documented and is maintained secret. I would have loved this feature both in NetNewsWire and Shiira. Nonetheless, Shiira represents good innnovation.
