Alarm clock radio with integrated iPod dock now at Hammacher Schlemmer
About a month ago, Engadget and iPodlounge reported that iH5 was getting ready to intro a new iPod Alarm Clock Radio. Looks like Hammacher Schlemmer now has (what looks like) it for sale, although they don't actually call it the iH5 or mention iHome at all. Other popular retailers are also selling it, most with the iHome name. The iPod Alarm Clock Radio features a stereo speaker system and a dock to hold, charge and playback your iPod's entire music collection from your night table. The docking station fits any size iPod with a dock connector and a special jack and patch cable allow you to connect older, non-docking iPods, iPod shuffles, CD players, or other MP3 players.
Now you can wake up to a song from your iPod or from the built-in AM/FM radio. For those of you who need a bit more help in waking up, the alarm clock also has a classic "buzzer" and my favorite feature - a snooze button. As an added bonus, the time is set on the clock by simply entering in your time zone - a feature I appreciate every time we have to set the clocks ahead or forward.
Just try not to lose sleep over the $99 price tag.

It kind of looks rather huge for an alarm clock...!? More like a fat old boombox...

OK, so I saw this at the Best Buy that I work at today and instantly bought it...mainly cuz i saw it on here this morning and oh my god...it's got incredible sound. Definitely rivals the iM3...in fact I would say it sounds a lot better, and quite a bit warmer sound wise. The interface is perfect, and it's even got a sleep feature that gradually gets quieter as you get closer to your sleep timer. It can wake up to either your iPod, buzzer or AM/FM. This thing is great, and I recommend it to ANYONE who has an iPod and needs to wake up in the morning lol...

I think this product is a great idea... it's not THAT much more expensive than a regular alarm clock, and I love the idea of charging my ipod at night and it waking me up in the morning.
My only concern is real estate -- between my cell phone, TV remote, lights/fan remote, stereo remote, lamp, and junk I empty out of my pockets at night, my nightstand is a crowded place. How big is this sucker?

You can get a 10% discount at Hammacher Schlemmer by entering code BHE798 at checkout. This offer expires 7.31.05. The discount does not reflect online, however, the discount reflects when they bill your credit card.

Bought one of these at Target (I know- I paid too much,) The sound is great. None of the tinniness you get with most clock radios. AM/FM reception is better than most, at least on the stations I usually listen to. My only gripe is with the backlight. I can almost read by it. Even at the dimmest setting it’s way too bright. I ended up putting 4 layers of windshield tint vinyl over it just so I can get to sleep.

Sounds great buy my question is:
Can you set which playlist/song you wake up to? Or does it just choose a random one?
I'm not so sure I want to hear just ANY song from my 12 gigs of music first thing in the morning.

Tried the window tint and still didn't like the brightness. I ended up taking the thing apart and wiring a switch to the display light. Now, it is always off (similar to when it is on battery power) unless you press a switch. Pretty hairy soldering/wiring but I'm really pleased with the results. I can post pictures if anyone's interested (I'd have to take it back apart but it wasn't that hard the first time).
