ClamXav 1.0.1 released
A new version of ClamXav was released last night. This is the OS X GUI front end to the popular ClamAV open source virus scanner. Along with the most recent virus definitions (not that it really matters; you should be updating the defs reqularly anyway), the 1.0.1 release sports improved internationalization, translations for two new langauges (Nowegian and Turkish), and support for instalation outside the default folder.

how does this compare to Virex 6? It's free as well...

I imagine that more than 99% of all potential employers use Windows-based machines. Guess what it will do to your chances if you send them a virus-infected file? At a price of $0, ClamXav seems like it would be worth a try.

Lets say you download a file with a virus, while it won't affect your mac, if you sent that file to a friend or colleague who uses a Windows machine, then you have just infected them. Same reason we wash our hands when we have a cold, I can't get a cold twice at the same time, but if I sneeze & then touch you, then you'll probably get it

Its something you hope you will never have to use, but will be VERY useful if said disaster ever hits. One day a real virus threat will hit. Do you want your company or family's computer to be a causality?
