Mac Chess program pwns Windows Chess Machines
As you all probably know by now, I am a chess fan. I'm also a Mac enthusiast, so I was pleased to hear that this year's 5th International Dutch Computer Chess Championship, held from June 3rd to June 5th in Leiden, Netherlands, was won by a program called Shredder that was running on a dual 2.7Ghz Power Macintosh G5.
Take that you Windows-based chess programs! Ha!

Come to think of it, I don't actually know anyone who has beaten Mac OS X's Chess.app! Has anyone done it?

Mere mortals like myself fear any computer based chess game whether it be on PC or Mac. And I'm sure Shredder on any platform would not only pwn C.K., but probably anyone else who read this extremely nerdy post.

Its reportedly the first time that a computer chess program running on a Macintosh computer has won a major computer chess event. [Jul 20, 2005]" from http://www.apple.com/hotnews/

LOL, this doesn't actually prove anything about the efficiency of the G5 over the Intel machines. It is more about the Shredder code, which uses a very large opening library database, which doesn't even have to reside on the computer, but can be accessed via the Internet.
