It could also be an artist's plug for a song called "You don't need me" or a new local band by that name which would appear to be flashing on the screen of the iPod. According to the itunes music store covers of a song by that name have been done by Brett Ryland, Dave Potts, The Melodians, and Ruby Red. Tracy Nelson also came out with "You Don't Need Me To Move A Mountain". Or, if the objective of the piece is to be art, then we are free to think outside of the box, in which case the circular figures could be pawprints and the words the thought of a cat as he litters, isolated and alone as he does his business. You don't need me! He exclaims as he does his business in the sand and prepares to cover it up and go. More likely, it is the result of a desperate staff meeting in Redmond where they had a think session on how to limit iPod use on the Microsoft campus and a few extra of the posters wound up going up off-campus in hopes of starting a trend.... Having been in the "graffiti arts" some (many) years back, I can say that this kind of stuff doesn't surprise me. My friends and I would pretty much do the same thing with wheat-pasting or stencils (we believed in having a message in the graffiti, not just posting your name up). We used to "attack" whatever was the big thing at the time, mostly because that was a sure way to get a rise out of people. Obviously there are a ton of people with iPods and they all walk the streets, so they're definitely going to see this and get mildly offended (or whatever). Or maybe the artist was referring to the fourth button when he said "you don't need me." Maybe the menu button? There must be a logical explanation for leaving out a button on his quality piece of art. Fishes, narco.

No, I do mean Flickr, courtesy of one of the many RSS feeds I watch religiously. Try it... you might like it. http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?tags=ipod&format=atom_03 Sometimes when 2 sites happen upon the same gem on the same day, it means nothing other than that they subscribe to the same feeds. I'm willing to bet that most of us who earn a living doing this subscribe to hundreds of the same feeds from the same sources.
