Most Macs missing from Amazon
Dealmac reports:
As of now, July 25 at 6 pm ET, Amazon.com no longer sells any Apple Macintosh desktop or laptop computers other than the Mac mini. Some third-party vendors, like CompUSA and JR.com, are still listing Macs on Amazon.com, but none are sold directly by Amazon.com. No information is provided to suggest whether this is temporary or permanent.
They're right. A quick check showed that every Mac I clicked on except the Mac mini came up with "Currently unavailable" (in the case of the iBook, which lends more credit to the rumors of new iBooks tomorrow) or with another retailer as the seller. iPods, however, seem to be in full supply.

Um...yeah, I would say that is about as clear a signal as we're going to get that a product announcement of some kind is coming.

Apple has a back-to-school promotion (free ipod mini w/purchase). Is it just me or does that guys ibook look kind of large...

Yeah, it seems all signs point to a new release. Especially when I remember reading how Apple occupied most of Amazon's top spots on their list of computer sales. I was planning on waiting for an Intel-based Powerbook since I don't really NEED a portable at the moment, but if this comes out I'll consider it. Especially if the price is $999 like those "leaked" part numbers we saw the other day suggest.

As of now, 6:30 PM PT, all of the Macs I looked at were available. Let's not jump to conclusions... ;)
