Well, some time in the wee hours of the night, supposedly, the image appearing with this post appeared briefly on Apple.com. The original link to the pic has been dugg, but the original pic has succumbed to the power of the digg. Fortunately, someone was able to mirror the image. Make sure you read the comments on the digg for everyone's votes on whether it's Photoshopped or real. I think it's a fake. The car on the screen of the "widescreen" iBook doesn't look properly centered to me. What do you think?

I'll throw in for fake. My reasoning is that *none* of the four sub-headings has changed, and I would think at least one of them would.

I would think that, if this was real, the webmaster was just setting everything up to be published about this new iBook, and accidentally really published the picture.

i'm thinking it's a fake. i think something like a widescreen iBook would either get it's very own shot (i.e. alone) or at the very least the widescreen would be placed in FRONT of the 12" iBook.

well, actually, 12" ibook doesn't display widescreen movies this way. and frankly the difference between the two isn't that noticeable. so: it's a fake.

I say it's fake. "See everything in widescreen" doesn't have the nice ring to it that most writing from Apple does, not to mention, why would anyone in their right mind, hide the widescreen monitor partially behind the standard monitor?

I like the guy that commented on Digg that "I don't know if anyone could make a ps that good. Gotta be real." Just because _you_ suck with Photoshop doesn't mean other people do, bwahahahaha.

I have never seen apple overlap products like that - usually side by side. Why would they promote subaru like this? If anything it would be a BMW, right?

That's almost as bad as when people can't instantly figure something out so they claim it's been "shopped", or because they see compression artifacts it's proof the image was severely edited.

Just finished reading the digg comments, especially good were the 10 or so posts were people took a spoof image seriously. (the one where it was stretched to nearly double a 12" ibook's size) He actually had to add a comment on the image that his was a spoof. Geez, talk about dense.

You mean like this? (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/73002/wo/CR4wkdvHgmD93ZCuxLJ19mAbmwi/0.0.11.1.0.6.23.1.1.1.1.0.0.1.0)
I do think it is fake though.

What good would a widescreen iBook be? I'm sure Apple would still keep the resolution at 1024x768 or probably drop it to 1024x640 to give it the proper ratio. We all know Apple would never put a decent resolution in an iBook since only "professionals" have a need for one.

The font in the headline was the first thing I noticed. The letters are much wider than on the actual Apple.com.

The link to digg.com appears to be broken.
I'll guess it's a fake just for the same reason as comment #3. Why would you hide it behind a regular 12" iBook.
But if it's real, it could be time to upgrade my old G3 800 MHz 12" iBook.

Yep, fake. "See everything in widescreen" is lame copywriting. Plus if we did as told, nobody would buy the standard format 12" iBook--clearly not widescreen. Let's hope Apple's marketing folks are more clever than this.

i think it might be fake. why? because if you look closely at the website address, it doesn't look like the apple adress. plus, weren't the rumors saying that a 14" and 17" (i think) will come out... right??

Totally fake. To further the opinion of #3 the image is NOT at all effective at showcasing the most important new product feature, the widescreen. The marketing folks at Apple are smarter than this.

gaaah.. if this is true, i will make a point out of beating up steve jobs with my 2 week-old 12-inch powerbook; no way should the ibook line get widescreen before the 12-inch powerbooks!!

I do a bit of advertising - and I'm with Jay. Who'd put the nice shiny & new iBook at the back. And that blue- come on! Oh and half a billion songs more important than the brand new (to some users) Tiger? Hard call? Bah, I do love it when someone gives it a go.
