MacDevCenter on Firewire
MacDevCenter has a new article up by Francois Joseph de Kermadec, where he discusses What Is FireWire (and How Best to Use It): "FireWire is a high-speed, data serial interface that has many practical uses. In this article, you'll learn the ins and outs of this powerful technology, plus some inside tips to take advantage of its unique features."And here, I thought, that Apple was moving away from firewire. The article covers creating a firewire network and using firewire to communicate with your TV. Pretty cool. I wonder if an upcoming article on USB will be next? ;-)
Check it out.

"And here, I thought, that Apple was moving away from firewire." Why would you think that? Wrt/ the iPod, FireWire simply had zero benefit over USB 2.0 (don't start with performance differences -- the hard drives in iPod regulars and minis don't get anywhere near the speeds USB 2.0 and FireWire 400, let alone 800, can achieve). USB 2.0 is far more widespread; therefore, it was the logical choice to drop the included FireWire cable. That had nothing to do with whether or not Apple still embraces FireWire.

You watch. When the MacIntels hit the market, I will bet they will be equipped standard with Firewire800. And in turn, Intel will equip their mobos with Firewire800 standard. The reason why Intel's USB (really an offshoot of Atari's 8-bit SIO Port and designed by one of the same engineers I might add) caught on is because Apple demanded too much money in royalties per port for Firewire400.
