Free time + Photoshop = Video iPod
Okay, so we've all been speculating about the potential release of an iPod video (or VidPod? iVid? PodVo?), but as of today we've got nothing but baseless conjecture and the foggiest of rumors. Certainly nothing we can hold in our hands. But that won't stop many of us from believing, deep in our aqua hearts, that such a beast does exist within the secret, hidden passageways of 1 Infinite Loop.So what might such an iPod look like? Similar in design to the PSP or Life Drive? Or do you think, like I do, that it'd be basically unchanged from the current design, encouraging users to play stored video on their TV's, and not the iPod's screen.
Fire up your favorite graphics app and send us your best guess. Let's see what you're thinking.
Update: Our sister site TUPW has picked this up, so head over there to see how the pros go about faking shots like this.

I think that picture of the so called video Ipod looks kickass... its actually exactly what i would have imained, I hope tho that wehn the video Ipod comes out, it will be easyer to put videos on then putting them onto a PSP for example, Plus I hope that it will not have such a redicoulus rip-off price like the Ipod photo had when it came out. We should ALL not buy the new Ipod when it comes out, untill apple has lowered the price! spread the word!

It will be a wireless remote control device with a video screen for home use. It will preview clips and TV channels on the screen, control iTunes on your computer, control your home theater devices, and do it all through AirPort Express. Apple already has a patent for such a device (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1164) and I think it makes sense with all the rumors flying around about meetings with content providers and the like. Here's what I think it'll look like (based on the patent filing): http://www.flanaganid.com/vpod.jpg
July 29 2005 at 10:41 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe bigger screen (necessary for video) should be used for more than just videos. i really would like to see something like this... :) http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/189/ipodnewt5ye.jpg

It seems a total no-brainer to me, but I never hear anyone talk about this." Now that would be a useful addition to the iPod, I would also like to see that. I have used my iPod to deliver presentations using slides as photos before, but of course you lose all the transitions and animation.
July 29 2005 at 3:24 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy vPod would be the same as a regular ipod except: The edge at the top would be a hinge and it would fold back. The screen would slide out so the screen would be the same aspect as the ipod case when fully extended. The click wheel could be used to control the movie as you hold the unit sideways. Also, you could flip the screen in software and hold the vPod left handed too. So you keep the MP3 iPod in normal mode and extend it for video mode.
July 29 2005 at 1:35 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't really care, because unless it comes with a tool to convert existing video (and I mean, of course, DVDs and divx, xvid, MPEG1/2, realmedia and Windows Media files) to Apple's MPEG-4 standard (or, God forbid, h.264) I won't bother with it. And Apple, hello, could you PLEASE add Keynote playback to the iPod? It seems a total no-brainer to me, but I never hear anyone talk about this.

You select your video using the normal ipod control and screen, then flip over and turn to its side to reveal a nice widescreen 16x9 ratio. The vidPod will HAVE to have a screen. The iPod is mobile, and tv's are not. You need to be able to watch it wherever. Maybe they'll have the video out as well though
