Mighty Mouse: Multibutton-esque Apple Mouse

mighty mouse
OH MY GOD!

Apple finally grew a brain and released a multi-button mouse! Sort of...

I'm overjoyed, I want one, and I'm speechless. It's "single-button looks, multibutton charm." I think this may be one of the signs of the Mac apocalypse...

Is there a bluetooth one?! Doesn't look like it. When the heck are they going to come out with a bluetooth multi-button-esque mouse?!?!  ;-)

Thanks, Harry!

ps--I wonder if Apple will get sued for infringing on the cartoon character. "Mighty Mouse Viacom International Inc. All Rights Reserved." Thanks, to narco and hellRaven for pointing this out.

UPDATE: In my excitement, I forgot the details: $49, Mac / PC (WIndows XP / 2000) compatible, USB 1.1 or 2.0. It's a mouse with a scroll ball, button, touch-sensitive top-shell, force-sensing side buttons, and optical tracking.

ALMOST great... pressing both buttons registers as LEFT mouse button. Who cares? Anyone who uses maya or plays games cares. They have to sort this out... quite an oversight. Otherwise, it's ok. The scroller button is great. A

Just a point: I've been using a multi-button mouse on OS9.1 for some time, with PLENTY of contextual menus, both in applications and the Finder. That's on my old PPC 7300 with USB card. I couldn't STAND a single button mouse. Really, it's been there for anybody who dares to use non-Apple products with their Mac. At the moment I'm using Belkin 3-button plugged thru Mac USB keyboard on my Mini. Low price, satisfactory performance, and no compatibility problems.

Couldn't wait to get the magnificent Mighty Mouse. Unpacked it last night. Immediately discovered it won't even do what my old Kensington optical mouse 72113 will do, that is, program one button as a Command-Click. Pretty unforgivable that the functions are so very limited (OSX 10.4.2 on G4 desktop). I'm calling Apple to request a product return based simply on dissatisfaction-- and as a Mac guy since the Mac and the Mac Plus, that's definitely a first for me.

Nice, aside the sappy looking scoll button and the fact that the thing is 50 stinking dollars with no bluetooth... I wonder. It's about time though.

It's about time. I have been using Mac's ... well let me say computers (Mac, then PC, then Mac, then PC now Mac again - whenever it has been my call I buy Apple ;-) for graphic design, animation, web design and programming for the last 15 years. With the purchase of any Mac throughout the years I would almost always buy a two button mouse. I think, what was it XLR8 (or one of their companies) had I great multi button mouse with scroll in the mid 90's. Nowadays, I am stuck with a Microshaft -wireless keyboard/mouse. Anything beats the pluck! Now that was just plain bad design. The Might Mouse looks promising... if it were BT I would probably give it a go. But, $50 these days for a corded mouse? Cords are so Y2K... hehe. I bet Apple comes out with a BT model within the next 3 months.

And, of course, they announce it as my Pro Mouse starts acting up.

Apple finally grew a brain... ?!?! Oh come one, Apple has created an OS so elegant you Don't NEED a two button mouse, but smart enough to take full advantage of one if you plug it in, and you are only NOW giving Apple credit for thinking out how thier users use a mouse? Keep in mind the resounding senitiment here, at a website dedicated to Hardcore Apple users might acutally want or use Multi-Button Mouse, but the Grandmothers and the eelementary school crowd that doesn't spend thier day reading this sort of website never seem to have a problem with the one button mouse, some even see it as... stay with me now, an ADVANTAGE. But honestly, Apple gave us multi-button functionality with the very first release of OS X. The only difference between that day 5 years ago and today is that when you pay someone a lot of money for a multibutton mouse to replace the one you got with your Mac, that money goes to Apple as well not logitech or Miscrosoft, which don't get me wrong I am all for. I do also like it better than other companies mice. I just wanted to comment on the sort of "DUH APPLE" thing it seems everyone is saying. When they release a BlueTooth version, I'll buy one. And no, its not standard yet, they'd have to chage part numbers for all Macs with Mice so maybe next revision, but for now, it is an optoin, not standard... I am glad yo can turn off the second button if you like... Does this mouse acutally click, like can I FEEL the click? or is it a touch thing. I know the speaker makes a click sound, but can I FEEL it click?

Get out! Apple has reinvented the mouse! This is so weird. I am a one button mouse lover, but this seems so unique that I might have to give it a try!

A lot of people around the Mac forums would appear to be nagging about the lack of a bluetooth version. The simple answer is that there is a bluetooth version! But the mouse is still running around in the test lab so people ough to do less complaining and more waiting.
