Around the Web: Mighty Mouse Roars
Whenever Apple releases a new product into the world tongues start wagging and the Mighty Mouse is no exception. Sadly I was unable to lay my hands on one today. My local Apple reseller, Springboard Media, doesn't have them in stock and Eric, the fellow who helped me, said that they hope to have them in stock by the end of the week or start of next week. However, other folks were about to get their grubby paws on a Might Mouse. Here is what the good old blogosphere has to say:
- Kevin Lim gives us his review in the form of a video
- Ars Technica reviews the Mighty Mouse, and they like it though they don't think it is revolutionary
- Emily Hambridge fell in love at first sight with her Mighty Mouse
- Gear Live thinks Apple has improved on the mouse
- Engadget thinks his Steveness is getting risky in his later years
- NSLog likes it, but will he give up his MX-700?
- Mike Davidson is digging the scrollball
- Macworld has a nice overview of the Mighty Mouse, as well as a picture of it with some of its mouse relatives
- Russel Beattie has a hands on review of the Might Mouse including some shots with an iSight for size comparison
- Command-Tab is going through the typical Mac user dilemna, 'I want it but do I need it?'
- Random Eyes has a nice run down of several interesting issues including the positioning of the Mighty Mouse at the Apple Store

I currently use a Logitech Trackball as I can't live without my scroll wheel and right mouse button.... I'd LOVE to get hold of a new mighty mouse, however, my G5 iMac has the bluetooth module installed, and I'd rather have a bluetooth version of the Mighty Mouse.
Anyone know if this is in the pipeline?

I agree with texinick: clip that wire and I'll consider it.

It looks great. I love the idea behind a programmable mouse. However, I have to wonder how comfortable it is? I use a logitech mouse now, and it feels great in my hand. I'll try out the Mighty Mouse at the store, and if it feels comfortable to me, then I'll buy one.

Whatever... you sheep can't think for yourselves anymore.
Don't take seriously any mouse that isn't wireless. What a piece of junk. So it uses buttons in ways that haven't been done before... but who cares if I have to deal with a freaking USB cord to use it.
This product just shows you how out of touch Apple is... They have BLUETOOTH wireless standard, but can't even make a decent mouse for it. What a joke.

I played with, did not buy it. I was unimpressed. The scroll button is a lot like what many laptops of old with the eraser button in the middle of the keyboard. I review on my blog at http://www.reelsmart.com

I'm tempted, but there's got to be a bluetooth version first. I already have two Logitech wireless mouth (long story - don't ask) and I can get along with these until then.

What would be really usefull is if Apple could take the pressure sensing technology and incorporate it into the PowerBooks. I'd love to have a two button option along below the trackpad. Again, letting users configure if software if the want each side of the button to act the same or different.

Not impressed. I take my trackball with me on the plane, trips, wherever. It would be great if Apple made a trackball with some of this technology - and even better if it were Bluetooth capable. Until then - sticking with what I have.
